The NEW 2014 Jeep KL Cherokee - Check it out!!

Lol I had no clue the KIA was even 4 wheel drive. I was only about 7 years old when it came out and then my dads Ford Bronco was my dream truck!

Just like when jeep first came out with the JK. All the old TJ guys hated it. Still to this day, a lot of the guys driving TJs will say that its the ugliest wrangler made and isn't built as well or as capable as a TJ. And you and I both know that our JKs are built well and are very capable, even more capable stock off the lot than a Stock TJ.

Then you got the guys who will trash talk 4 doors and say they are the worst thing chrysler ever designed. But at the end of the day, they are just as capable as a 2 door and in some situations do better than 2 doors. Offer more room for camping, family, and fishing gear.

Like I said I dont like the new cherokee. But we have been around jeeps for a while. To the non jeeper they might fine it cool looking. I mean, look at the freaking FJ cruiser. And people buy that. lol

The NEW 2014 Jeep Cherokee - Check it out!!

The other jeepers in Hollister were dumbfounded when that 95 Sportage went on trails they were sure would leave it stuck. By no means it was in the same class as a Wrangler, but it was far better than its other counterparts. Wheeled past more than one stuck Explorer.

We jeepers have to come to terms that the only true off-road platform will be the Wrangler line. The next sub-compact, compact lines are more than likely going to be front drive car based cross overs. Theres a small chance the compact will have a solid rear axel, but I'm not holding my breath. The suspension must be swappable to other platforms in the Fiat/ Chrysler company. I bet most don't know that the Grand Cherokee is based on the Mercedes GL line.

If Jeep only built vehicles that we hard core want, solid axels and all, all the jeeps would be JK based. Then Jeep as a company would fold. Let's face it, we are a small subset niche of the overall auto industry. Let the entry platforms bring people in, it's then our job to convert those people into the off-road world. It is after all, a way of life.

Just saw this update on AllPar for those of you who are interested...

2014 Cherokee update

cherokee.jpg

Unofficial sources within Chrysler have told Allpar that the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, in Trailhawk form, will have full-strength skid plates and a taller stance for greater ground clearance. The Traihawk has been videotaped in Moab and tested extensively at Chrysler’s off-road courses, which were carefully engineered to match key offroad conditions and are constantly maintained to retain their form. Insiders are enthusiastic about its offroad performance, especially given its origins.

Source oh2o also confirmed that the Cherokee would have a fold-flat front passenger seat, to allow for carrying very long objects.

Re: The NEW 2014 Jeep Cherokee - Check it out!!

To me I really don't mind the look but I'm not trying to compare it to what it once was. I look at it as just a new line of vehicle. I will say I'm not a fan of the top lights though.

Looks like it might be a little while more before we see this thing on the showroom floor. But, when it does come, it will have an impressive 9-speed automatic tranny in it...

Cherokee pushed back?
head-on.jpg

In a move which could allow Land Rover to claim the world’s first use of a nine-speed automatic transmission in a light-duty vehicle, Jeep has reportedly pushed back the production date of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee from May 13 to June 17.

The change, which is still unconfirmed, is not surprising given the extensive factory renovations at Toledo North, as well as the new nine-speed automatic which may not yet have started full production, the new 3.2 liter V6 engine, and even the new four wheel drive system, which has not yet been officially released. In short, many components of the Jeep Cherokee are brand new, along with much of the machinery that will be used to make it, and any one of them could have caused a hold to be put on production.

Chrysler leaders seemed very confident that the company would be the first to use the ZF nine-speed automatic transaxle, which applies the revolutionary technology of their eight-speed to a transverse-mounted front-wheel-drive form. The transmission supports all wheel drive, and Jeep engineers have reportedly developed a way to have a low-gear four wheel drive setup with it, as well. Light and efficient, the transmission minimizes parasitic drag and has an unusually wide range from first to top gear, allowing automakers to use lower top gear ratios while still having strong launches from a full stop. This, along with extremely fast shifting, makes it possible to increase highway mileage while boosting responsiveness and acceleration.

The Cherokee will be unveiled in New York later this month, shortly after Land Rover shows off its new Sport model, their most popular vehicle in the United States. Both brands claim the New York metropolitan area as their most popular region in North America. Land Rover is owned by Tata of India, while Jeep is part of Chrysler, majority-owned by Fiat of Italy.

Sources have told Allpar that the 2014 Jeep Cherokee was originally intended to be sold in a nine-speed, 3.2-V6 format only, but that it will also have a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine option. We do not know whether that is to increase gas mileage, lower the base model’s price, or provide flexibility in the face of limited V6 production. (Thanks, “longtimeJeep.”)

Interesting... I loved my XJ. I'd hate for them to ruin the Cherokee name with a plastic piece of junk. They could easily rerelease the old XJ with some modern technology enhancements, but otherwise the same as before, and it would sell like hot cakes. Especially if they were able to bring back the 4.0L that was killed due to emissions regulations...

I don't need 9 speeds to drive it off a cliff. Three or four will do fine. :cheesy:

The Trailhawk has a locking rear diff; 4 low; and an inch more lift than the others. In the 'reveal' it was said to have traveled Moab, and it is Trail Rated. Comparing the Cherokee to its class competition that leans more to the car-side of SUV/ Crossover, its much more capable. I still want to see it in person.

This will open the door for Jeep to make a small compact.

At first I was :grayno:, but the Trailhawk is starting to grow on me. A little. Twenty years from now I can see it stripped down, locked and lifted with an oil burning engine pulling it across tough trails around the country. Right now I'm supremely happy with my JK and waiting for the pickup.:yup:

Uhm...ever been in a FDII Patriot? It's about as small compact as Jeep will ever get. It's what I had before my new JK and I had no issues with it off road. It's no Wrangler but she did terrific on trails that I took her on every other weekend. Hopefully Jeep will make a great replacement for the MK's that expands on the Patriots size and styling but gives it a better performing chasis completely seperate from any Chrysler platform already existing.

^ the Trailhawk is growing on me too...the squinty lights look like yellow eyes squinting as if saying "get the fuck out of my way!" but then the back end is just so flat. I wish it swung open to the side with a tire carrier on it...would look a billion times better. Needless to say, I sorta like the Trailhawk but hate the other ones only because the charcoal/mineral gray paint on the bottom of it. It makes the front end look a lot better.

I heard is FWD, so you have to be in 4 WD to use the locking rear. Really glad I kept my '98 XJ as a second vehicle when I bought the '12 JK. I am currently looking for a Southwestern YJ to replace the JK. The JK is a sport with minimum options, and don't like all the electronic BS that they have to have. This is the ugliest thing I have seen from Jeep, the Grand comes on a close second.

KennyG- I should've said a new sub-compact. The question is what will the small jeep be based on, the CUSW or the Panda? I like the look of the concept Willies One and Two from 2001. It came out before the GM branding/ platform sharing exercise of Hummer. So saying it looks like a Hummer that is now gone is moot. And if you look at the tub of the concept and compare it to the original military WWII jeeps you can clearly see the inspiration. Alas a small two door does not sell well enough to make a go of it. So it will have to be a 4 door also and that just throws the proportions. It will look stationwagony. ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1364500716.605704.jpgUnless jeep gets creative and uses half suicide hidden doors.

After watching the videos, I'm liking it more. Static pictures don't convey the sculpture of the design. And the TrailHawk should look better with a more agressive set ot AT rubber. I FULLY know that this is NOT a hardcore off road vehicle, so comparing it to one is not fair. This is Jeeps bid to compete with CRV; Rav4; Sportage; Tuscan; Escape and the like. It's looks separate it from the others, and the Cherokee has the better offroad drivetrain. Throw in 30MPG and it's very competitive. While I and many others still like the 30 year old classic look of the original AMC Cherokee, this new platform is for another generation. Many of the buyers for this Cherokee were not born when the original was out. I hope Jeep sells tons of them, this could be a very profitable worldwide platform. More funding for R&D on the next generation of our favorite outdoor vehicle.

Both the Compass and Patriot are based on the now dead Caliber. The idea was a his / hers take on the platform. Soft lines on the Compass, and hard creases like the original Cherokee for the Patriot. This platform was the Daimler/Chrysler baby, and the platform is ready to see the sunset. The Compass revision "A" had the softest lines and the C pillar does not fall in-line with the rest of Jeeps portfolio. The original round headlights that matched the then Liberty looked a bit goofy. This is why I'm so glad for the divorce of Diamler/ Chrysler; Mercedes has no sense of style. Benz has AMG and status, but lacks any sense of style. In fact, the then renowned Chrysler Design Studio basically went to GM after the takeover by Daimler.

If Jeep made nothing but 2-box styled vehicles ( JK, original Cherokee) they would not sell enough to stay in business. While retro is great, I like the Nukiser; ForwardControl; J-12 - even if Jeep spent the money to make them, would there be enough of us to buy them? I don't think so. Let's be honest, we are a sub market niche in the big automotive world. I say, don't hate on them. Talk them up to those interested in joining the Jeep family. The new Cherokee will be able to go off road. Much better than its competition.

I agree but the replacement should look more like the Patriot than some new piece o'shit. The Patriot has great styling, it just doesn't have the likable platform underneath it which is what every other Jeep owner cries about. I owned one so i have a bit of pent up agression if you couldn't tell lmao

Natural evolution of the Aztec? I know it's a jeep but that's just what came to mind when I saw it.
