Wheel Help/Advice

Hey Guys, looking for a little help and advice on wheel selection. Not looking to run a beadlock or spacers if I can avoid it but I'll go that route if need be. Originally I was looking at the Interco Birddogs 17x9 and kind of had my mind made up, but today I ran across the ATX AX186 Slot in the same 17x9. Does anyone have experience to share with either wheel? I like the 3.5 backspace on the Birddogs but the ATX come close at 4.06. I do like the look of the ATX more so than the other. I could go either way on the dual valve stems on the Birddogs but sort of seems like doubling your chances of breaking a stem. Couldn't find much in the search so I took to making this post. I'll be running 37x12.5 Toyo MT's on stock width housings. My guess is the ATX may result in a C-hair of rubbing, just looking for some advice from WAL. Thanks in advance.

Of those two I say the ATX. I think the Interco ones are ugly. Personally I don't like either. But that's just my opinion and take it as that. I have zero experience with either wheel.

Are you just wanting different wheels? You can run a 37x12.50 on stock wheels with wheel spacers.

I understand though if you want different wheels. Just throwing out the wheel spacer idea as an FYI in case you didn't know.

Edit to add: I like the idea behind the Intercos but just can't get over the looks of them. Lol.

Do you plan on doing off roading?

My main reason behind the new wheels is to end up with the correct backspacing for the 37's. I briefly looked into the stock wheels and spacers but that still only puts me at 4.5 which, from all I've read is not ideal. Additionally the stock wheels are pretty narrow for a 12.5 tire although I know it works. I'm not a huge fan of the Iook of the Interco's either, my thought was purely functional as they come with 3.5 BS. Most of my wheeling will be pretty mild but still plan on running the Rubicon or similarly difficult trails a couple times a year which is why I wasn't planning on a beadlock. Just hard for me to justify an extra $1000 for one or two trips a year where I'd be airing down that low. I'm pretty torn on the wheel decision. Half of me says just get Slabs while the other half asks if I really need them and thinks about the other mods $1k will get me. Hope that makes sense. Just looking for insight or persuasion. Haha. Thanks.

I run 35 12.50s with stock wheels and spacers. I would run a 37 12.50 without hesitation. However I too plan on some Slabs.

I run procomp wheels with I think 4.5 backspacing on 37x13.5 Toyo MT and don't have any rubbing. I would take the ATX the others look weird lol

Thanks for the replies guys. Still got a little time before I need to make up my mind. Who knows what I'll come up with between now and then. Seems like it's ever changing.

Well....couldn't make up my mind so today I put in an order for 5 slabs. :thumb: figured I couldn't go wrong with that decision.

Wait til you get them - they're awesome! You'll be grinning like a little kid when you open the first box! I got a set of Chamber Pros last week and the quality is top notch.

Congrats on your wheels, you won't be disappointed. Just make sure you get the silver ring bolts and not the black. The black ones are raw and they rust. Ask me how I know. ;)

Ok. My rig is a TJ so apples to oranges as it were, but I am running stock type cheapo steel wheels with 15.5 wide Nitto Mud Terrains with wheel spacers. No rubbing at all. Don't know if that helps but if I were you I would run the wheels I had until I needed or could afford bead locks. Again I don't know if that helps, but I felt like chiming in on it. Good luck. Thanks guys. Looking forward to getting them mounted up. Don't know about the bolts. Ordered from Offroad Evolution but I think they're being drop shipped, so whatever comes with them I guess. Thanks for the heads up.

Ordered mine last Monday with Drew and they showed up on Wednesday - Great service!
What tires are you using? Can't remember if you are re-using existing or not..

Haven't purchased tires yet but will be in the next couple weeks or so. Planning on 37x12.5 Toyo MT's. Noticed a lot of guys were running the 13.5 and kinda curious as to why. The 12.5 is a load range D and the 13.5 is a load range E. Any ideas? Seems to me a D would have a little more flex.

That's a good question and I don't know the answer. My current Pro-Comps are E's and I have to run them with 25psi to get a halfway decent ride. I would think that size & range is more for pickups or maybe guys that want that stiff sidewall?
