Spyderlock question

I have a 2015 Rubicon unlimited and I'm getting ready to take the plunge. Decided on the Evo DoubleD pro lift and nitto 37 inch tires but am stuck on the wheels. Ultimately what I want is the ATX slabs in 18" but have been told they no longer exist... So this is my dilemma since I really want the 18's.

My question is has anyone ever thought of buying the spyderlocks and machining the star out of the center to make them look like the slabs?

The spyderlocks and slabs are the same rim. You can buy a standard ring for the spyderlocks.

Thanks for having me 👍🏼

This may be anal of me but I just think that extra inch will compliment the 37's better looks wise and just basically had my heart set on them, not to mention I believe the spyder 18's are a 1/2 inch wider than the 17's aren't they?

I spent about a half an hour on the phone today with aj from spyderlock who was extremely helpful btw. I'm aware that they and ATX are the same wheel but was told the slabs are now only avail in 17 making obtaining rings in 18inch unobtainable. If anyone knows where they can be had, I'm all ears.

This is where the fabricator in me came out and wondered if anyone had tried this or thought of doing it? I do know several machinists but thought I'd ask the question here first to get some real world feedback before I spend a couple grand on wheels...

"He wants to be different and pay more for tires"

Oh and I've found a few places where the 18" tires are actually a couple of bucks less than the 17's. Either way, even if they did cost more, I'm getting ready to spend over $15k on lift/wheels/tires/bumpers/install... I don't think an extra couple of bucks is going to break me 😉

I have heard of people doing it. I also feel like I remember reading that Eddie did it back before the slabs, however I could be very wrong with that.

He had 20" spiderlocks and get rid of the rings for the slab ring.

Most be it for some reason I remember him saying he cut the middle out of a set he had before the slabs were even made. Idk where I pulled that out of lol. Must of been way deep up in my ass.

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback guys. I suspect that although uncommon, this may be a viable option for those that prefer the ring beadlock look over the star and wanting the bigger size wheels that are not available any longer through ATX.

Personally, I wouldn't want to have to cut up the new beadlock rings that I just paid for, simply to be able to have one size bigger wheel. But hey, that's me. You do you.

When your wife said she wanted another inch, she wasn't talking about the beadlocks...

Haha just messing man, just couldn't pass up the opportunity lmao

Get 17s 18s are to hard to find tired for the go metric sizes and won't get a true 37

Go 17's. I went with 18's because of the same reasons you cited. A year later I am looking a different tires and my choices are much more limited.
It's not about the couple extra bucks, it's about the lack of choices. I'm going to 17" Chamber Pro II's as soon as my tires wear down.
