Howdy to all,
I recently purchased Ebay Vendor 5x5 1.5" wheel spacers from a vendor named "Garageracing" on the site. I figured I would write a review on them since I can't find much on these type of spacers. I did a LOT of research on this vendor and the wheel spacers themselves and after doing so, felt comfortable spending around $100 on some wheel spacers. First off, I am NOT affiliated with this seller and/or the product. This is my review. Take or leave it, but it may help to alleviate some of the confusion on these "brand of spacers."
I had several correspondence with the vendor on Ebay. I was able to ask them some questions before actually purchasing the spacers. The vendor stated they are made in the USA, in Southern California to be exact. They use either Grade 8 or Metric 10.9 hardware and are machined from "Made Of CNC Machined 6061 Billet Aluminum." Shipping to me in Central California was less than two days.
Here is a brief review/install that I did while putting them on. I'm at almost 100miles of driving since install and they feel good in steering/suspension (if that is even a true statement as I really don't "feel" the spacers) and they have given my 2012 JKU a wider stance. I will be going to 35x12.5x17 soon and these were needed for the change.
The spacers came nicely packaged in a rectangular box:
They were packaged very nicely in plastic wrap and bubble wrap:
They came with a packaging slip and instructions:
The spacers are not painted (yes, they are NOT the blue ones!), but the aluminum is smooth and milled nicely. There are no sharp edges, pits, scars or defects.
Compared to a SpiderTrax Spacer, which is for a TJ, so a bit bigger circumference and size, the Spidertrax weighed 4.4lbs, the Garageracing spacer weighed 3.8lbs. All weights were with hardware on. You can see the SpiderTrax spacer was a bit larger:
Engraved markings showed what size the spacers were; in this case 5x5. The engraving was very clean and crisp, signialling it was actually cut by machine and not hand etched:
Came with 10.9 Metric Hardware (1040 MPa Minimum Tensile Strength)
The lugnuts were also grade 10 and 1/2 x 20:
Some shots of the machining and cutting detail:
Now for Install~
Take off wheels and you will find the hub. Make sure to clean well with a metal brush to ensure the spacers fit snugly on the hub/bolts. Remove all debris and remove the clips that are on the studs. This is VERY important to ensure the spacers seat correctly!
You can see here the hub. This is what the spacer will center on to be considered "Hubcentric" which the spacers I bought were:
Spacers installed on Hub:
Continued:
The spacers fit VERY well on the hubs and studs. Once I fit them on, they stayed in place without the lug nuts being needed. Very precise fit. The spacers do not wobble on the hug and are easy to fit on, meaning the spacers were machined to tight specs. This part worried me the most when installing, cause I didn't know if they would be over tight or loose-meaning what's the point of hubcentric? But I was very happy with the fitment.
Next, I torqued all the lug nuts on the spacers to 95ft.lbs and then double checked each once more before putting wheels back on. I did a tire rotation at the same time. I then torqued my JKU MOAB wheels to 95ft.lbs and hit the road. It drives without any issues, noises, ill feeling in the wheel or looseness. Very happy.
And don't forget to remove the stud clips!!!
Here is a shot of them on. You can see the tires protrude from the wheel wells more than stock.
So far, I am happy with the spacers, the build quality, the vendor and the fitment. Time will tell, but for now, I wouldn't have reservations in buying them again. I will re torque again soon and ensure there isn't any issues, failure or faults in the spacers. I'll keep you posted!
Thanks and MUCH Thanks to Lee! I appreciate your help with the old spacers.
