Was looking over my axles this week and came across this plastic piece at the knuckles. It seems these have a job of keeping water and debris out of the shafts but I don't know anything about axles to know. Does anybody have any suggestions or help they can offer in regards to these?
yep looks normal. irs a dust sheild to keep out dust and water but doesnt do a good job at all. when i installed my chromoly shafts i didnt even bother with trying to transfer it over after talking to eddie about it
Yup, totally normal. That is the axle shaft dust shield but really, it doesn't do a whole lot of anything. When replacing your shafts with a chromoly upgrade, you just toss them. Your axle seals are inside the tubes and down by the differential. If you're really concerned about it, you can install outer seals but really, it's not necessary.
Awwww man! Thank you guys for the responses. I had the vision of rusted out axle shafts and with the gear/locker upgrade in the works I fore saw shafts as well. I guess it's probably a good idea anyway especially with the Dana 30?

i would say only consider upgrading them if you break them like i did or replace them with stock ones again. this way you can save your money a bit for a PR44.
