Among other things, the new rumor has it that the next Wrangler may come with a Power Top option. Not exactly sure what this means but, there have been other rumors that a non-removable hard top was in the works on some model Wranglers as well. Could be these will go hand in hand. What do you think? Yea or Nay?

Jeep mulling power top for next Wrangler

Jeep is hard at work on the next-generation Wrangler, though the truck is still a few years from hitting the trails. The new model will still be aimed at off-roaders, but rumors suggest it will be a little more comfortable than previous versions to appeal to more people.

According to Road and Track, Jeep is developing a power-retractable top as an expensive option for the Wrangler. There is no word if the top in question is a sliding canvas rollback like the ones found on many European vehicles or a full convertible hardtop or softtop, nor do we know whether it would be made available on two- or four-door models. It might be a nice feature for some buyers but would certainly add complexity to a truck already known for its ruggedness. We asked Jeep for confirmation, but Jeep spokesperson Todd Goyer could only remind us that the company "can't comment about future products."

In news that is likely to irk the faithful, R&T reports the next model may also ditch its folding windshield for improved safety and possibly even get rid of its rear-mounted, full-size spare tire. The new Wrangler won't go completely soft, though, and will reportedly still feature removable doors and solid axles.

It's like buying a 4x2 Jeep. Being able to remove the top is a Jeep thing like letting your front windshield down.

I'd much rather see a top like on the sand trooper build. At least I think that's what it's called. The one that came to the SnG a couple months back.

I certainly hope some of these ideas are options or model variations and they'll keep a Rubicon model, etc that is in line with what the traditional jeep is about.

That was not the sand trooper.

So if course all if us at WAL are not gonna like it...not authentic, etc... but reality is Fiat doesn't give 2 shits about us...they want to appeal to the masses.. which prolly WD love a power top. As more And more of the everyday Joe gets a wrangler, we will become outnumbered and extinct....like a poached animal. Beer talking but true!

Most jk owners carry a purse anyways.

Does a messenger bag count? Because that's kind of a man purse, and I really like my messenger bag. Also, if jeep makes a power top, this is a fact- I will break it, I will break it like a silly little childs toy :brows:

Jeep should make a FACTORY fast back. That would sell and look great. Non-removable hard top??? WTF, over? I call bullshit. Power top? Maybe for the yuppie soccer mom types, you know the same snobby sorry excuses of jeep owners who refuse to give a wave when you pass them in a Starbucks parking lot....

Remember the days when a jeep had a single big round multipurpose gage in the center of a flat dashboard? No power doors or windows? No roll bar padding? Just a simple, pure classic farmer's truck..... Hell when I first had a CJ5 no one other than a local farmer had anything 4wheel drive!

Times have changed for sure. Not all change is bad. Jeeps have come along way, a lot of the technical improvements are a direct result of the huge market share the vehicle has carved out for itself. I am not happy about Fiat making the future wranglers, very afraid they will resemble the Kia Soul or the "Cube" thing...... But then I have a TJ for a reason ( I'm broke)
