Go-Pro -- any experienced users? Opinions?

Hello all! :D We were thinking of picking up a Go-Pro with tri-pod etc. for the JK soon and wanted to know peoples opinions and experience prior to buying.
We saw they had roll bar mounts but what do people use during the winter? Do those suction things work? My husband was worried about it getting knocked off by branches.
I saw mixed reviews and wanted to know if anyone had any stories :D

There are a few seperate threads on Go-Pros here beans so you can do a little extra reading if you choose. i have one and love it! i have the suction cup and the extra battery. the suction cup works best if the surface you are putting it on is clean, like windex first clean. the suction is rated to hold up to 155 mph so going slow it will have no problem.

Sweet. I did a search and didn't catch anything...I'll try again. More reading would probably help! :)

So, the suction cup works ok then? That would be a lifesaver b/c we weren't sure the clamp-thingie would work anywhere on the outside in the winter (maybe the rear windows?)

I picked up the GoPro Hero 3 Black and love it. I have not purchased the roll bar mount yet but considering it. I do have a sport cage in my JK and the rounded mounting pad will work perfect on the sport cage. I have seen several others use the suction cup on the inside of their vehicles. I believe Eddie and Cindy use them and have had great luck. I will recommend if you do get a GoPro that has wifi download the smart phone app. It makes using the camera so much easier. With the app you can actualy see what the camera is pointing at and how it will look. You can also control the camera from the app.

yea it works great outside. first time i used the suction cup it was 20* out and it held fine. the olny time it didnt hold good was when i mounted it to my hood. the heat from the engine prob killed the suction. i have mounted it to my front window, driver door, driver window, etc. i am going to try one of the perminant mounts on the frame i think at somepoint this summer while wheeling and see how it looks.

I use Gopro's a lot and keep in mind using any wifi/Bluetooth remote is going to drastically effect your battery life. I'm not saying don't use them but keep a charger, spare battery, battery back-pac available, etc. Also the suction cup mount works great I've ran it on my car at over 100mph with no issues. I'm sure those other forums answer almost all the questions but if not feel free to hit me up.

Do you know how they store the film? Like, is it avi or mp4? I guess, like, how much time can you film? Wondering if I should get a couple more memory cards with it but they are like 100 :grayno:

I use the GoPro video editor and can save the footage to any format. It even has options if you want to post on YouTube or Vimeo. Not sure if you have but check out http://gopro.com/ and this should help answer your questions.

.mp4 is the file type and .jpg for photos. Depending on quality your shooting depends on how much space. I run 64gb cards in mine and can fit hours of video on it. I typically shoot in 720p/60fps or 1080p/30fps/protune:auto and get great footage. I carry extra batteries but typically swap them out before they are dead to avoid having to do it when I want/need too.

VERY COOL! :D Thank you SO much for this info! This was a genuine concern. AVI is such a huge file format that making one video can add up to ridiculous amounts of GB :( This is great to know!

No problem...just to let ya know they will probably be releasing the new one this summer if you can wait you will be able to get the "newest" or just save some cash on the 3/3+. If you ever have question on formats, resolution vs. cropping, etc let me know. Like I said I use my GoPro's almost every day. I'm actually editing up some footage of a trip to Moab where I out my camera on my 4WD rc truck and mobbed around in the snow. It's pretty awesome footage. :yup:

I have a gopro hero 3 with a suction mount. I'm happy with it. I've taken it with me for pictures when I dove with sharks, put it on the jeep for some offroading videos

Also it's very easy to use. If you get a hero 3... Download the app on your phone and you can connect it to the camera and change all the settings, switch from pics to vids, start and stop recordings and all that right from the phon
