Cheap or Free Jeep Mods

My iPad mini mount. $35

I was looking at those grab bars that are machined out of aluminum and had a 1" ball (carolinametalmasters.com). I didn't really care about spending almost $200 for a whole bar, when all I really wanted was the 1" ball to mount my iPad on.

Went on amazon and found the parts to make it work with my stock grab bar.

Pulled off the alan "bolt" to mount the ball and found out it was just a cheesy screw and the "Jeep - Since 1941" panel just snaps in with clips.
I found a screw that would work and mounted the ball to the little panel then glued it onto the grab bar so it wont fall off.

Here is what it looks like without the iPad:

Here is the RAM mount attached to the ball

If you look up on the top cage cross-member, I have to run a bluetooth GPS device, since my iPad mini is wifi only. (it's about $95 on amazon)

Works awesome!

looks good.... but after the cost of the the mount ($35) the GPS unit ($95) and the mini iPad ($300), not sure that it counts as an "under $100 mod"..... :D

but it looks great!!!

I was going to put that disclaimer in there. :D The mount is was the post was about. You can put cell phones and anything else you want there.

Smittybilt winch dash controller- go to a music store and get a Speakon speaker cable end, an electrical extension cord (3 wires) and a single pole double throw switch- about $20

For OBA quick disconnects, to keep mud, etc out of the QD when wheeling, use a 3/4" chair leg rubber foot to slide over the QD $5

I attach a wire to the rubber foot, so I don't lose it when I take it off the QD.

For doorless driving, get a set of harley mirrors and footpegs from someone who upgraded to chrome, lol
I got mine for free
Take mirror in to hardware store and find a nut to match the threading on the mirror. For the foot pegs, get a 1/4" x 2 1/2" bolt and nut
Attach them to the door hinges

Airing down- this has been around forever, but a quick, cheap tool for airing down, you just need to time it, and watch closely, but 4 of these can be made for less than $10
Medium paper clips from office supply store, #8 x 3/4" bolts and nuts
Drill a hole thru the paper clip, attach the nut and bolt, and clip them onto your valve stem to release air, do all four tires at once

An airing down method I like better, but more $ is the 4 air system, I like to air up and air down, all 4 tires at the same time, and part of the same system, therefore, same pressure of all 4 tires. I have a air hose going from front to back of my jeep, and then 2 hoses (one front that tee's off to the front tires, and one rear that tee's off to the rear tires)
I use the same air hoses for airing down and airing up, so it makes it pretty simple and quick. I can go from all 4 tires at 8 psi to 32 psi in 3 minutes.
But you can make an easy setup for jus 2 tires, with 2 clip on air chucks, a shut off valve, air gauge, a T, and some air hose
Open the valve and watch the pressure decrease

My top 2 are:
1.-Tranny cooler. $70 with 6 extra feet of hose, and brass barbed fittings.

2.- Home fabbed sliders with 1.75 dom bought locally and 1/4" plate a friend was tossing.
Elbow grease plus $105.00 in pipe before rattle can and solid core weld wire.

I like these. Do you know what the wall thickness is? Im considering making a set with 3/4" rigid pipe.

Definitely on my short list coming up.

Sounds good. I want to give you a hand with the new D44's too. Did the fronts come with gussets?
