overheating or not??

My 2024 JLUR 3.6l seems to me (old school Jeeper) like it runs too hot. No codes or warnings but instead of the "guages" I watched the actual numeric temp display on the way back from a summer in Colorado and I'm spooked. On a grade it will get up to 230 at which point I pull over and do some idling which will bring it down back to 195-201. Never tried continuing beyond letting it get to 230 - either chicken or what seems like common sense. It will also heat up rapidly when accelerating on a flat. Any use of power above normal steady flat driving does it. I thought 230 is way too hot (like I said I'm old and more used to a 195 or even 180 thermostat back in the day) so I took it to the dealer and got the "nothing is wrong, perfectly normal if it doesn't go over 240" response. Is it true? If so I may need a modernizing brain transplant. I do have the towing package.

What you're seeing is totally normal. If your engine actually gets hotter than that, the computer will pull power until it cools off enough and drops to a safer operating temperature.

I've tried different things to get better cooling but have learned (and wasted $$$) that everything runs hotter on the JL and it's normal.
It'll go into limp mode (had that happen once) or toss an engine warning light as it loses power, it's disturbing as hell when it does that
 
I’ve hit 250 pulling a trailer up a long grade. Same thing, scared the bejesus out of me. I called the dealership too and was told the same thing. I also experienced what Eddie said as a result. I was also told (I can’t recall the exact description) that the cooling system works a little differently than older cars where it will electronically control when to cool at different times. One minute you think it’s too hot and then all of a sudden the oil temp and the water temp drop way down. I don’t fully understand it but I was told not to worry and that it will totally take care of the engine before it ever comes close to overheating.
 
I challenge anyone to post up a pic of the time their JK or JL/JT overheated - it just doesn't happen

And OP, don't get your titties in a wringer because it's not you, it's a shitload of folks - why are Wranglers the only vehicle out there that people shit their drawers over the coolant temp? Short of when towing, when's the last time you worried about the coolant temp in any vehicle?

As a reminder, the engine thermostat temperature is the temperature at which it opens to start cooling the engine. It is there to help the engine heat up rapidly, or for really cold weather. It does not suggest a recommended maximum temperature.

Antifreeze is used to keep the engine coolant from boiling at much hotter than 212 degrees. Once the coolant starts boiling it is not very useful, and really bad things can happen.
