How Much Money Should I Be Willing to Pay to fix my 2014 Jeep

Caught the Bug
I changed a 9 month old spark plug and the original coilpack on #4 cylinder to see if this would get rid of the CEL. My 2014 JKU Sport is 11 years old (152K miles) with the 3.6 engine so I've been having nightmares about her needing work. I was going to try new fuel injectors to see if that will fix everything but trying to not throw parts at it. P0304 and P219B. I want to get a compression test but I am concerned about the cost of the repair if it turns out to be the 3.6 common problems with rockers and lifters. I did the above mentioned work in front of my apartment by myself so I was very proud of myself. If the cost is more than $2500, should I consider not spending that much money on an 11 year old Jeep? I've researched this 3.6 issue and new about it but I've read estimates between $2K-$6K. I just want my Jeep to be enjoyable again. One shop charges $125 for a compresssion test and then $500 to remove the valve cover to diagnose. Yeah, the shop will put the $500 charge towards the repair but who knows what the estimate will be. A dealership here charges $225 for the diagnostic but who knows the repair estimate will be at a dealership. Some guidance would be appreciated. This is my second Jeep and I've driven a Jeep for the past 20 years. I was spoiled with the inline 6 on my TJ and loved it.

All kidding aside. Depends on your budget and how much you like your Jeep . You could probably find a low mileage replacement engine for close to what the repair cost is but if you can’t do it yourself labor cost can get expensive in a hurry. Other thing throwing parts at it won’t help until you know what the cause is. Lots of different things can cause these issues from the Computer to the wiring harness.
If you can local parts stores will rent compression testers easy to do yourself.
If it were rockers and lifters I would assume it would rattle in the valve train .

Did you change the PCV valve when you changed plug and coils?
Did you replace fuel injectors?
The O2 sensors are reading a rich or lean mix and it could possibly be a bad O2 sensor but if you did not replace the PCV valve and you've got 152,000 miles, I would start there

A new Jeep might cost $80k, so that should help with the decision making regarding fixing your existing Jeep. Perhaps this might make the decision to pay for repair less stressful on you.

I don't want to engage but where the hell are you shopping for jeeps?
Unless he's looking for a fully loaded Rubicon or a used 392, can still find a sport for a decent amount

If the engine needs a bunch of work ($$$$) then 5.7 swap and call it a day.
I plan on it. I'm working on something personal right now but the goal is to keep the Jeep, do a swap so that the Jeep is no longer my daily driver. The engine is stock right now, no modifications.

Did a sensor change last year that was suppose to be bad and it got rid of the CEL for a while. I'm going to try the PCV valve which I should have done when it was apart last year for the oil filter housing replacement and last week when I did the spark plug coilpack replacement. I haven't committed to taking it to the shop yet so I have these two items to try.

I changed the PCV valve. It was full of oil(or at least oily) and the hole was definately wider than the hole on the new valve. Still have the codes. It's going in for diagnosis. I planned on keeping this Jeep and didn't want to do any major work until it was time to do a whole swap. I didn't need this as I am still clearing up my mother's estate and putting that to rest. I need a win as it's been a rough year.

Sorry to hear about your mom. Jeeps can be a love hate relationship if you have other means of transportation park it for a bit you can always get back to it.
Anything mechanical can be fixed. Swaps are cool but expensive lots of low mile 3.6 engines out there if it came to that.
Codes can be caused by many things from bad or loose ground wires to mice chewing on a piece of the harness. I chased ghost codes on one of mine for months ended up being the potting in the pcm had degraded and once the pcm was replaced no more problems.

Thank you. My mom always asked me how the Jeep was running every time she called. I’m keeping it til I die or the Jeep dies. thought about the PCM as I found out the pressure test passed. Yeah, it’s my daily driver. I take the shuttle to work so I don’t drive much. Thank you to everyone who responded and I am proud of my self for changing spark plugs by myself and I know how to change the oil filter housing from last year-it’s still working.

***UPDATE*** - Since I take alot from the forum, I wanted to report back and perhaps help someone else. THANK YOU for all of the suggestions. The Jeep is fixed. I got tired of throwing parts at it even though these were "fixes" for the #4 misfire and excessive fuel consumption, so I took it to a dealership for a diagnosis. The compression test passed which was in my favor but when I was asked for permission to remove the upper manifold which was going to be $700 to remove/replace with new gaskets, I said "button it up and I'll go home". That's two hours of labor billed and although I am nobody's mechanic, it didn't take me 2 hours to remove the manifold to put in a new sparkplug and coilpack. My last parts of choice was a fuel injector, and I planned on changing all 6 of them but it seemed like throwing parts at the Jeep again. I took it to a local shop to be looked at since they helped me get the bolt off the PCV valve and they put the new ones in. He gave me the Jeep back yesterday and said don't pay the bill until you put some miles on it to make sure the CEL stays off. I drove 67 miles in total with 4 start/stops since yesterday and no check engine light. Turns out it was that after all but I got tired of buying and putting on parts. During my research, I found out that JL fuel injectors are a direct fit, have 8 port holes instead of 4 and cost $33/ea as opposed to $113/ea. I saved $500 using JL fuel injectors considering I spent diagnostic money at the dealership. I needed a "win" after all of that. I was hesitant but read enough people use these injectors and report greater fuel efficiency. I just wanted the CEL off and having confidence in the Jeep. The Jeep became sentimental because my mother would always call me and ask how the Jeep was running so I am keeping it. I need it to last because when the engine goes(if it does), I'm not putting in another 3.6 Pentastar but rather going for a swap. Some pics below of a couple of the OG injectors.

That's a good shop when they tell you not to pay the bill until you've made sure it's fixed, those are hard to find these days.

I expected to pay the bill on pick up since they put in all of the fuel injectors. They could have waited 30 minutes for me to drive and come back but they didn't even call me the next morning at 8am which is when they open. Very nice and I got complimented for being able to change sparkplugs and oil filter housings by myself (especially being a woman). I don't the guy was being sexist so not offended. The guy was impressed that I knew to raise the hood and put it all the way back out of the way. I'm no mechanic but little accomplishments over the past year have been satisfying.
