Banks/Money Managment

I could rant on and on about the property tax abuses by ISD's; fuck them, I paid off my home and there is absolutely no reason why I should rent my home from the fucking tax assessor
Crazy when you think of it like that. We are paying rent on land we own.

They recently passed a law in my county that you can no longer live in campers for more than 90 days without that being counted as a "home" and being subject to everything a home is subject to (ie, codes, taxes, etc). There reason was people in mobile homes were up in arms that people living in campers didn't have to pay property tax and have codes involved. I call bs, its a money grab.

We in Va get to pay property taxes on our vehicles as well as our homes. They also ask us to let them know about tractors ETC so they can tax them as well. We do get a bit of an exemption for farmland since the neighbor cuts hay on our land but they appraised the house and its land separate.

that's bullshit, money grab for anything they can come up with and all behind closed doors

noticed mine jumped about 60%, fucking 60%!!

I fought it, all their reasons about homes around me appraising that much higher I called bullshit on. they didn't want to deal with me and tried to cut me short on time, but I said something about the AG and news stations and got them pushed back down to the previous year but still about 15% higher than what they should be.

Filed old fucker exemption, fought the appraisal again and got it dropped to a realistic value.

The ISD's are the biggest culprit, all the funding they need to teach illegals to speak English, fuck that, charge that back to those fucks, I also have no children in the system so why am I being taxed.

We are in the greenbelt status so our taxes are a hell of a lot less. It sure what they would be if they were full price.

The county to the south of us has that law as well - you are not allowed to live in a camper for more than 90 days. In fact, they won't even give you a proper street address until you convert your camper or mobile home into real property. As in, you need to build a foundation and make it a permanent structure. It's the only way they can properly tax you for your property. Otherwise, you would just be paying registration fees on your mobile home.

A big part of this is to collect taxes for sure but the other part is to help prevent the county look like a trailer park. Hoti-totee counties do it to keep the riffraff from setting up and making their million dollar home values go down.

They look here doesn’t matter to anyone. That’s the beauty and the curse of unrestricted land. Our house will be the highest valued on our road when we are done (actually already is and we aren’t done) and the worst house is right across the road and is the newest. It’s more the people than the place. But I would rather have unrestricted than have people tell us what we can and can’t do.

That is probably the biggest reason why we stopped looking at properties in the county south of us and why we're selling Topaz (it's in it).

I don’t understand if you own a piece of property but there’s no structures on it then it doesn’t have a street address? These Gladys Cravitts expletives deleted people drive me nuts. If I want to live in a cardboard box on my own land what business is it of anyone else? Seriously folks need to mind their own business and calm TF down.

You can get an address with nothing here. Buy some property and just go to the county to get an address.

Crazy, ain't it? Douglas County, the one to the south of us went from being an ag county to an ultra wealthy retirement community. TONS of Californians from the bay area too. Fortunately, most are still red types but even they tend to have the NIMBY mentality.

In the vicinity of Dallas, Texas, (and perhaps all of Texas) the city and the school districts take half the taxes. When properly values double (or triple), they are happy to take the extra taxes, give all their employees big raises, or spend it on unnecessary projects. The school district boards and the city councils could decide to take a smaller percentage to get what is actually needed (e.g. 8% to 4%), but that never happens.

This is a big reason why taxes used to be good in Texas, but now they really suck.

yep, ISD's found rape victims that don't fight back.

I think that's about to change and hopefully eliminated soon

…I also have no children in the system so why am I being taxed.
Maybe I missed it, but are you saying that only people with kids should have to pay taxes for the benefit of the public school system?

If so, I definitely disagree with that. Having a population that has a baseline education (the ability to read and write at a basic high school level) is extremely important…whether you personally have kids or not. The problem, IMHO, is how my tax dollars get used in that system…not that I’m having to pay them.

Yes, my child has been out of the system for many years; at my age why should I be forced to pay into a system that has more waste than results because of programs like ESL, after school babysitting, summer programs ...let all those types of costs fall on the parents, not the general tax population.

I should be getting a refund for every adult that comes out of the system dumber than a box of rocks because the parents didn't care and the school system failed them.

some areas do reduce the burden on retirees due to the unlikelyhood of having children in schools at least that’s what my mom said in NY but tbh even reduced her property taxes were crazy.
Interesting. My folks don’t have reduced taxes up there. In fact my dad bitches about his taxes all the time to me. Lol

He pays more in school taxes alone in a year in NY than I pay for all my taxes down here in TN. My house is valued almost 10x what his is too. Figure that one out.

So why not completely privatize education? Let individual parents buy the K-12 education they can afford. If they can’t afford anything or can only afford K-3, who cares? If there is one thing society could use more of, it’s window lickers. Plus, there is no way it would make class disparity worse. ;)
