Anyone mount a 180° awning on the roof?

Caught the Bug
My daily driver JT ( 4” long arm & 37’s) is slowly transitioning into more of a “rock lander” type rig. We already have a buggy & crawler but looking to use this rig for more trail scouting and wilderness camping. Set of dyntrac’s on order, picking tire/wheel combo now.

On my last scouting trip the temps were in the 90’s with no shade for miles. At our lunch break I sat under a friends awning to escape the brutal heat. Definitely a game changer when there’s no shade.

Looking to mount 180° Awning off a roof rack for maximum shade and want it easily removed for tight trails. Anyone done this? I’ve seen 90° degree awnings but they don’t offer as much shade. I don’t have a bed rack, I will have a roof rack so suggestions for that are welcome too.

My buddy used to have ROAM one on his cab-height bed rack, but on a Tacoma. Are you asking for mounting suggestions? Awning suggestions? Rack suggestions? I don't know anyone on here who runs one.

Awning & mounting suggestions. I’ve seen the ROAM, it’s kind of a small footprint. I like the JCR roof rack but their mount doesn’t work with 180° awnings.

Most people are doing a 270 awning now a days. I have done a decent amount on some different branded bed racks on fords and Toyotas but have yet to do one on a gladiator.

wow , quick search and there are a lot of options
I found very few 180° awnings that mount to a roof rack. Most 180° degree awnings I’m finding are 8’ long and mount to a bed rack. I need something in the 5’ range as I don’t have a bed rack. Please share some companies you found on your quick search, it would be much appreciated.

Those 270° degree awnings use a bed rack to support them. I don’t have a bed rack, I’m going to add a roof rack and was hoping to find a 180° awning that would work. So far the only ones I’m finding that are the right length are 90°.

I looked at the HD Nomadic, it’s too big. Never saw the 23Zero mini awning, looks like it would fit just right. Thanks! 🍻

Can always carry one of these. If I ever go to Moab in July again (lol doubtful) I am for sure taking one. Our group needed to do some pretty intensive electrical troubleshooting & repairs on a jeep in the middle of Where Eagles Dare and for an hour and a half everyone just baked. One of these would have been awesome. Be handy doing repairs in the rain as well.
