Took the fam up to play around and picnic in the Stanislaus NF.

stopped at a little vineyard and tasting room on the way home.

It seems wise to at least carry a big Silky Katanaboy saw so you can saw through logs with a bit more time and energy. You might encounter a new deadfall while you are retreating. If that happened, what would you do?

That’s a very good point and one that I’ve actually never thought of. Might have to add some sort of cutting tool to the basics I pack. Although out of all the time I’ve spent in the woods, I’ve never had a tree fall behind me and block my route. That would definitely suck though.

This did happen to a friend of mine when he was remote camping by himself 15 miles from a paved road in Utah. Luckily he does carry a saw capable of cutting through a log. It took a couple of hours to cut through the deadfall.

I have that same saw in Brute (as well as an axe) all the time. When I snow wheel with my buddy, he always has a chain saw in his rig…
