So, Cindy and I have been talking to Motech and we're wanting a bit more power for Moby... maybe something in the neighborhood of 600 HP if we can. Anyway, the question I have for you is, should we do an LT4 Supercharger OR do a hot cam and headers? What say you?

Seems like there is always negative things to say on here about supercharges, but I think that's more related to the V6s, while your motor is built to handle that power increase and there is factory motor that has no it. Is there much of a heat issue difference between the 2 options

option 2 please
It is a solid setup.

Yup, I have no love for superchargers on a 3.6L or 3.8L V6. The LT4 is what comes in a Z06 Corvette and it puts out 650 HP. Not 100% sure about heat but I don't think it'd be a problem. Biggest issue is cost.

Either way sounds like a great time, but I guess if you can get to that type of power without forced induction that might be better in my opinion, more predictable and reliable, not that LT4 wouldn't be I suppose. Good old fashion HP though

I think all the miles you put on your Jeeps the cam and headers would be more reliable.

Are your tires loud enough to cover the supercharger whine or atleast make it tolerable? If yes, thats gonna put down more than a cam and exhaust can hope to reach. It will piss away gas though in comparison, doubt thats on the highest concern list on a big ol jeep with a v8 swap.

so long as you don't angry grill it and turn Moby into a Mad Max extra ....

I'd think the hot cam and headers would be hard to manage for crawling unless you have racing plans?

not a fan of headers in such tight space but I only tried them with the 3.8 and even ceramic coated and wrapped they created so much heat it melted wires. maybe the LT4 is a better fit with headers? 🤷‍♂️

If GM already designs a supercharger for this engine in a factory setup, I'd vote supercharger all day long. I'm sure it can be added with little modifications. But if this particular engine wasn't designed for a supercharger in a factory application, I see issue on top of issue in the years ahead.

That’s a tough decision. Increase in heat with a super charger or reduction in low end torque with cam and headers.

If I was in that situation I would most likely use the factory SC or another roots style blower and make sure I’m planning on getting the biggest heat exchanger I can fit.

Funny I was in Vegas yesterday talking with Kaylen about adding the LT4 charger to the top of my lt1. The LT4 is as mild as your right foot grandma could drive it.
for me the power is there right off idle cammed engines make power up in the rpm range. GM designed the LT4 to be reliable and predictable . That’s why I say LT4

I prefer a naturally aspirated engine, so options 2. That low end instant power in my opinion is better for the trails. But I could see the advantage of the SC wide open in the desert.

I don't think headers are a worthwhile addition to a modern V8, the factory manifolds flow just fine.

Since its not your DD I say blower, a mild one
