In October 2016, the Air Force Material Command brought the depot maintenance line back to full capacity in preparation for re-winging the fleet.[141] In June 2017, it was announced that the aircraft "...will now be kept in the air force’s inventory indefinitely.

Boeing was awarded a contract to upgrade the wings for the A10...still flying at least for awhile longer...

I’ve never heard the brrrt of an A-10, but I’ve heard and felt it out of an AC-130... I can only imagine what it feels like when it’s low and slow off the A-10. Impressive weaponry.

Both impressive. But the A10's 30mm to the AC-130 20mm is pretty badass. That and the fact they are a lot lower. The sound of victory. :rock:

I wasn’t sure if they were the same weapon system. Now I know! [emoji1360] You’ve got to be able to feel it deep in your bones when that thing lets loose at low altitude.

Looks like the AC 130 has a variant with a 30mm auto cannon. Along with all it's other badassery. 2 of my favorites. Apaches are also a blast to watch work.

It was an amazing feeling having those flying over your head delivering some good news. The best description I’ve heard was it sounds like hell is throwing up. Something I couldn’t believe I got to experience.

In 2001-2002, they were almost exclusively the only fixed wing CAS platform we would see. By 2004 we weren’t seeing them at all. That’s when I was told they were being phased out. I didn’t see them again for the rest of my career. It’s great to see they will keep them. I remember seeing some of them on the airfields with the tail section missing and they were still able to land them.

Ever since I was a kid, P51D's have been my favorite of all time. Such a timeless shape. And the sound of one in a full dive gives me goosbumps.
All of the warbirds, both new and old, are the most badass machines ever.

When we were training with some CCTs out in Idaho, the culminating event involved us inserting the CCTs into a mock village. We had 2 A-10s as our escorts and it was amazing. The absolute perfect platform to escort us because of their speed variances and how they could easily match our birds in any configuration (MV-22). It was also a live fire event so we were all shooting. Very impressive firepower from a relatively small platform.
