Colorado Springs, CO or Asheville, NC

Caught the Bug
So...thinking about changing it up again. We live in Columbia, SC. Been to and explored the surrounding states NC, TN, GA, FL, and all over SC. We really love the Asheville and western NC area. We moved down her 5 years ago from Omaha, NE to start over. We would go on vacations when we lived in Omaha to Colorado Springs and surrounding areas and loved that area. Well life is short and time to start over again. Our goal is to see as much and experience as much as we can in our life. I've been on several sites comparing cost of living, etc. We love to hike, explore, enjoy the great outdoors. Both offer that as well. We did not dig all the snow Nebraska had to offer. We are just a couple with a dog and two cats. Would like hear fellow members opinions of the good, the bad, your favorite places or haunts. Pics optional.

Thanks!

no experience in either place but i would think that colorado would have a decent amount of snow for you to work with again BUT beautiful places to see just lik you mentioned. i say Colorado

Colorado Springs gets some snow but it melts quick, and it melts when it's below freezing. :) it's weird but it happens. We don't get alot of snow, that's reserved for the high country. The nice thing is you can drive out there in a couple hours from here and do what ever. Fish, hunt, camp, wheel, ski, white water raft, whatever. We moved from Maryland 7 years ago, and last weekend we drove from the springs to grand junction(near Utah) and it was a fantastic drive out i70. It's hot maybe 3 weeks out of the year, and sunny 300+ days a year. We love it.

Low humidity is the key. It's 80 or 90 but it's not that bad.

As for snow, this year we hardly got any in November - February. Spring we got some, but again it's melted in a day or so.

I went to school about an hour west of Asheville and can tell you there are plenty of places to hike in the mountains over there. NC is a great state in that it's got plenty of mountain activities and plenty of beach activities. Snow... I was always disappointed. We never got much snow even deeper into the mountains. There are a few ski resorts, but nothing like you'll get out west in Co. If skiing/snowboarding is a big part of your life, Colorado will fill that niche better than NC will.

I used to live in Colorado Springs but moved to woodland park 20 mins into the mtns because the springs has become suburbia and woodland park only had 6k people. Plus everything you do you end up going west so it cut the drive down. Love it in woodland park.

Woodland park is really nice, and if you do need to come into the springs it's 20 minutes down the pass.

In NC you wont have to worry about burning down  . If you are about enjoying the outdoors and hiking Colorado would definitely be the place for that. You have 14ners to climb and there is no better view than at 14000+ feet. You can drive your jeep up to 13000 feet on some trails like the backroad to Breck. In C Springs you are right next to the Lost Creek Wilderness area, perfect plae to go backpacking and day hiking. If you dont like snow dont worry bout it. It will snow in the morning and by the afternoon its melted and gone. People think Colorado is all about snow and its covered year round, it is if you are up in the mountains but in the foothills front range area of Denver and C Springs itll snow but it doesnt last long. I have spent most of my life in Colorado (Denver and Steamboat) and I love it, there is no other place in the US that I would rather be than Colorado. I have spent time in every state other than Maine Vermont New Hampshire and Hawaii and still would prefer Colorado.

I may be a bit biased but you asked for opinions did you not? ;)

We definitely love the winters here but the summers are brutal. I remember having to layer our clothing when we were in Colorado. Loved it. Woodland Park, Estes Park is beautiful as well. We really like the vibe too. There are a ton of things on our bucket list towards the east coast and neighboring states. Something about the mountains that just keep calling us. We are about an hour n half from the beach and rarely go. Naujk love the pics bro! You get me swaying! Oh and lets not forget the breweries too!

I have never been to Colorado but have family about an hour and a half west of Asheville. It is absolutely beautiful there in the mountains. But I think Colorado will put you closer to more outdoor activities.
