BETTER STRONGER FASTER : Making Moby Great Again - MOTECH 6.2L L86 w/10-Speed

Your JL & Gladiator are bad ass no doubt... but Moby is still my Favorite.... and he keeps getting better.

Ain't gonna lie, Moby is still king and even more so now with this LT :yup:

Hell yea! Glad to see Moby back in action. [emoji41]

Thanks!

It’s been way too long!!! I’m glad to see that he’s alive!!!

Yeah, it's been a while for sure but he's alive and kicking for sure. More so than ever before!

We all started out watching you guys with Moby

Awesome! Glad you're still like him :)

Nice! Looking forward to seeing a review of Moby’s update.

Moby!

Damn it's been a long time, ready for your video and review :thumb:

Nice to see Moby back, definitely looking forward to the upcoming video review. [emoji106]

Looking forward to seeing the video on this, it’s been a while.

The OG has returned!! Can’t wait to see the video of his return!

I like it! I can’t wait for the video!

It's been a long time. Can't wait to see Moby in some videos again soon

Can’t wait to see how he does with the changes

Video is coming but not just yet. We just spent the last couple of days shaking him down and pushing him as hard as we could and with the purpose of addressing any problems that may have arisen. So far, all is good but there are a few tweaks we are wanting to make before we take him home.

A timeless classic. Will we see mud grapplers return? [emoji6] with so many rigs you could run every grappler. Ha ha

Too funny :cheesy:

The prodigal son returns...

Almost. Still want to make a few improvements first.

Nice! Id be sweet to see an updated family photo. [emoji106]

Yes!! This is definitely something we need to do :yup:

You know the Gladiator and Jet Li was like “ ah great. Not this MFer again! Better get the battery tender out”! Lol
Can’t wait for the video.

:cheesy: Too funny :D

About time he came home.

Great to seem him back home!

Not just yet but maybe in another week. :thumb:

Well??? lol :D

LOL - right, that!

What I can tell you is that Moby was always amazing and a ton of fun to drive but now... he's crazy scary fun!!! I mean, literally - there were times that I scared myself driving him and Cindy flat out told me to slow the fuck down before I killed us. The new LT with the 10 speed transmission makes the LS he had before feel like a lumbering dinosaur. It isn't even the horse power but rather, the crazy torque you get from the CVVT, direct injection and higher compression. The cam phasing give you a kind of power that you simply could never get from just down shifting. Throttle response is super snappy and on dirt, I REALLY needed to watch what I was doing. The crazy thing is, Moby technically only has an L86 and Robbie had actually de-tuned it a bit before I took the keys.

So, the only kind of issue I saw was in the trans temp. In triple digit heat and pushing Moby as hard as I could in the desert, coolant only got up to 230 before the fan kicked in and started bringing it down. Trans got up to 226, which is fine but I could see that pushing it even more would get it to climb more. Needless to say, addressing trans cooling is one of the things we're having Motech look at. I also asked to have our tune be restored to at least stock.

All in all, I'm really impressed with the LT and I'm so glad we decided to do the upgrade. The LT and with the 10 speed transmission really is that much better. Of course, now that Motech is using a single module system, everything under the hood looks simple and totally factory.

Here are a couple of shots that we took while testing out on the trail.

I was talking to Cindy just now and she reminded me that the reason the single module system "looks" factory is because it IS factory! EVERYTHING under the hood is factory GM.

Thats quite a glowing report outside of trans temp increase. Im sure they will have that solved quick. Moby is a beast for sure!!!! Be nice to see some footage coming soon.

My app is not liking the quote function right now so I had to go primitive.

This was what I was wanting to know. I had the LS in my jeep that got totalled and while it was nice it felt a little dated. Its getting harder to wait for this engine swap.

Hmm... just in time for one last JKX adventure perhaps? So cool to see him back on erm... off pavement again. A couple New Years runs ago was the first I got to see Moby in person. Still to this day he’s my favorite build and, now that Rubicat now lives here in Utah it’s Almost like old times.

this is good news! I've been on the fence in not wanting to deal with different systems but if this is truly one module, the JK may become a spry young-un again...now if I could do the same to my aging body :cheesy:

To be fair, even the trans temp wasn't really an issue. Even under hard conditions in triple digit heat like climbing an extended grade, it never got hot. I was only able to get it up to the point that I did by being heavy on the gas over and over again off road and even at that, I wouldn't consider it bad. I just wanted it to be better so that I can keep on playing like that all day long. :yup:

The LT and 10-speed really do take him to another level. I'm way more impressed with this setup than what I've seen with a Hellcat under the hood.

The LS is/was a good engine just like a HEMI is a good engine. It's just that the technology on them is dated. They still sound great and put out a lot of power but where the LT really shines is in it's torque and right from idle. The direct injection, higher compression and maybe most importantly, the cam phasing CVVT really puts out a throw you in the back of your seat torque and in a way that down shifting a gear cannot.

LOL - that is what we're hoping for.

Oh yeah, with this setup, the ONLY system you're working with is GM. Even any codes you get on your dash all come from the GM computer. It's really pretty awesome.

That’s cool. Should be an even better setup, now.

Eddie, any pics of under the hood you can share with us showing the new wiring and set up?

Sorry, I don't and mainly because Robbie was already taking things apart before we left. I should be able to get pics by next week after the few modifications we asked for are done. What I can tell you though is that the wiring harness is a factory GM harness that just plug in. There is no cutting or splicing of anything on to it.

So glad you are happy with the setup!

That kinda seals the deal for me. I "thought" that was what I wanted... Now I know! :D

So many times I have been let down by this 3.6L. From the smoke shows to the off idle lag. It just sucks.

At higher elevation it really started to show. In Billings Canyon I tried to bump it over something. Backed up... Gave it throttle... Nothing. Had to back up and power brake it to get anywhere.

I am done with all that! :D
