VIDEO - JL JOURNAL : Armoring Up the Underside with EVO ProTek Skid Plates

Anybody who knows me knows that I’m not really a fan of aftermarket skid plates. They're big, heavy, trap in a lot of heat, make it difficult to service the underside of your JL Wrangler and can make it hard to spot things like a leak. And, for the most part, the JL Wrangler already comes with skid plates to protect important things like your gas tank, transfer case and even your transmission through the use of a skid bar. However, there is one area that is completely exposed and could really benefit from some protection - the oil pan and transmission cooler lines.

While the oil pan is exposed, it is located close to the front axle and it's actually a lot harder to hit than most would think. So long as you pick good lines and/or use a spotter as needed, I've always found that you can get by without any protection for it. However, the transmission cooler lines are a totally different story. Over the years, I’ve seen where tree branches, roots and even rocks on the trail have been able to catch these lines and cause significant damage to them. Needless to say, it is for this reason that I decided to install some well needed protection for both and did so with an EVO ProTek Skidplate System. In this episode of the JL JOURNAL, you'll get to see how quick and easy they are to install and we hope you'll find it to be helpful.

I hope you never hit it on anything. Mine was on my jeep for less than a week and 1 wheeling trip before the welds broke and it was bent to the point it was rubbing the exhaust cross over pipe. The sad part is none of the scratches on it were even through the paint so it wasn't hit hard to make it worthless. Poor design and a waste of money. Rustys is much stronger and beefier that will hold up to trail use.

Lol. Rustys doesnt even make an engine skid for the JL. Do you know what you're talking about?

Your profile shows you have a JK, with no armor listed.

And as noted, Rustys does not make these skids for the JL.

What parts, on what jeep, are you talking about? Pics of damage? Ive got more than a couple scuffs on my JK protek skids without issue so far.

Great video! Gotta ask, do you think you need the exhaust loop skid that was missing the bolt? Imo by the looks of it that the main skid for the oil pan/trans lines would be enough

Ummm, welcome back from 2016

I assume you're the same guy that posted up on our YouTube channel. I'd be grateful if you could please post up pics of the broken welds and bend you're referring to. Thanks!

Not everyone here can wheel as hard as a badass such as yourself.

Yeah I think you should just go back to playing with the Poo in your moms ass and leave the Jeep stuff to people that actually know what they are talking about.

As I watch the Wayalife productions and (can't help but to...) compare them with similar content, it is exciting to see how your work is moving the bar, and having a strong influence on the community in general. And even though I'm still in a JK, I find the JL Journal videos very relevant and educational.

THANK YOU!!

Haha! I was thinking about content... along the lines of observations, advice, etc. That's where I see the strong (positive!) influence on the community. It's definitely apparent in the offroad community here in AK.

LOL!! Well, I'm new to all this Jeep stuff and no where near the profession that I'm sure others out there are.

Well, here's to being a quick study.:D

Edit: I do have a question about the power tools in your videos. Have you done a video review on them or is there a thread on the forum? I don't recall seeing one... I'm about to make the switch from air to battery tools. Been more than happy with my (plug in...) Milwaukee Sawzall but that's the only experience I have with their tools. Thanks again!!

I have not but really should. Like you, I used to use all air tools but made the switch to Milwaukee M18's a while ago and have never looked back. They're great on the trail too and if you can get your friends to run them as well, you can all use the same battery and you don't all have to carry the same stuff. It works out great :)

Skids look good man. I bet your 11/16 is where you left it... next to the 10mm socket.

:cheesy: OMG - so true :cheesy:

Another great "how to" video and especially when just shooting from the hip!

Glad you enjoyed it :)
