As anyone who knows Cindy and I well, you know that the we love to run our Jeeps doorless and topless and for the times when we have to run a top, we prefer a soft top. Unfortunately, even with a soft top on, there's little to nothing that would prevent a would be thief from taking whatever he wants from the inside our Jeep and it's for this reason that we've always installed a Tuffy Security Deck Enclosure or at least, in all our JK's. Of course, even with a hard top on, having a deck like this provides the added benefit of making it easier to pack, stack and organize all our gear. Needless to say, adding a Tuffy Deck on our brand new, Jeep JL Wrangler was high on our to do list and in this episode of the JL JOURNAL, you'll get to see just how easy it is to install.

BUY a TUFFY Deck here:

TUFF Security Deck Enclosure Highlights
• Made out of welded, 16-gauge steel and is covered with a durable textured powder coat finish.
• Offers over 20,000 cubic inches of secure storage when the JL tailgate is closed and locked.
• Does not rely on the wheel well to create an enclosed space adding an additional level of security.
• The deck and rear panel can be opened up and propped up with ease and without the use of tools.
• The rear panel can also be removed with ease and without the use of tools.

NOTE: Tuffy makes 2 different Security Deck Enclosures for the JL Wrangler, a standard one and one for a JL equipped with the Alpine subwoofer. It is important for you to order the correct one for your JL.

These are really nice and on my list of things to buy. Do you notice any degradation in sound quality covering the subwoofer up?

Ha ha, I just realized that the video was only 13 minutes long. Everything with the exception of the drive time for the needed bolts was done in pretty much real time. Your real time. In MY real time it would take me 13 minutes just to get the stuff unpacked. Point taken about the security though. It would be worth it to me even if it would take me well over the allotted time to install it. Thanks for sharing how easy it would be for even the mechanically declined (me) to do the install. :hmm: :thumb:

Whatever “he” wants? Did you just assume the thieves gender? [emoji13]

:cheesy: Sorry, didn't mean to offend thieves around the world

Nice install. Seems like a well designed product.

Thanks, it really is a simple but effective design :yup:

Looks to be super easy. Gonna have to get one for the JK

Been super nice to have in our JK's

Looks great! I need one eventually

It really is a nice deterrent to have especially if you ever run topless.

Honestly, it was a concern of mine but I can't say I've ever noticed a degradation in sound quality of the subwoofer. Not on my JK's or now JL. Of course, bass emitting from it is kind of omni directional? I think it just resonates throughout the Jeep. Sorry, not a sound expert here

Cool. I have had one on my JK for years. It’s a great product

Yup, we've had one in all our JK's and had to have one in our JL. :yup:

That’s a must have item.
Nice video.

As you would know :yup:

Great video and a great product. Is the lid strong enough to hold a fridge (assuming there is enough room between the top of the lid and the sport bar)? Alternatively, I wonder if Dometic or any of the other fridge brands have a shorter fridge that would fit under the deck.

:cheesy: You're too funny my friend. Looking forward to seeing you soon

Deffenetly well designed and functional product.

Yup, it's why we've always run one in our Jeeps :)

Interesting that they used large wing nuts for quick disassembly...

Interesting?

Must have in a four door. Little harder in a four door. Thinking about installing the one I have in Tina’s jeep.

I think so. Super helpful to have and make packing a lot more convenient.

good timing!

LOL - glad to hear it :)

High on the list for next to do mod

Right on :)

Having carried my fridge on Moby in the past, it's not something I would recommend doing. First off, unless you've got the 37 qt fridge, I doubt you could get a 50 qt to fit under the roll bar and even with the 37, it isn't exactly easy to open the lid and get access to things inside. I don't think you could fit a fridge underneath it.

As it happens I just went through this. I have a Tuffy deck in my JK that I wanted to retain. I also wanted to get a fridge that I could keep in the back of the Jeep somewhere and not have on the seats. I looked at the dimensions of models from ARB, Dometic, and others. All are too tall to fit under the Tuffy deck. I ended up with an ARB 37, which fits perfectly on top of the deck. It is tall and a bit inconvenient to get in and out of, but it’s certainly usable. One reason I went with the ARB over the Dometic is that the ARB lid opens in two ways. You can hinge it up, which is rather tight when a hard top or soft top is on, or you can detach the entire lid with a kind of sideways tearing motion. With the lid off, it’s much easier to reach in. It didn’t seam like the Dometic lid can open in that way.

BTW, the ARB 50 has the same footprint as the 37, but is about 4-5 inches taller. That extra height would make it unusable on the Tuffy deck unless the Jeep was topless.

I assume then my best option for carrying my 50qt ARB fridge is to take the deck top off on trail days?
