Roof Rack + Snorkel = Overland?

Caught the Bug
I been reading some of this thread, and in my opinion "overlanding" ,"rockcrawler" or even "weekend wheeler" are just Jeeps or other vehicles built for your personal use as you see fit. But most builds are capable for most all terrains anyways. So are any of them better? Nah, just what you use it for. 🍻

I follow him on Instagram, it’s pretty awesome what he is doing. Like you said, his Jeep isn’t all much different than most...

LOL!! To me, "overlanding" ,"rockcrawler" or even "weekend wheeler" are just words and ones that a lot of people use to describe the limitations of their Jeep. Sure, a lot of builds are "capable" of a lot of terrain but there are some builds that can traverse even MORE terrain - better, faster and with a greater degree of comfort. Oh, and you can even use them to go on extended camping trips. :yup:

Do you still have this rig? I’ve gone back and forth so many times with the RTT thing. Are you mainly solo when you sleep? Thoughts on 3 people crammed in there?

I still have this...it now lives in Hawaii where it's mainly a beach fishing rig now. We have a larger James Baroud on top of my Xventure trailer in WA that will easily sleep two adults and your daughter comfortably...but I'd take it off if you are doing any serious trails...it adds about 250 lbs on top and completely changes your cog...serious amount of suspension rebound

Well, it is over half way there.

This quote was found on page 55. I found it from OverlanderJK's recent bump and went to reading it alllllllllllllllllllll.

Spent several days of free time, but it was entertaining, sometimes educational, and wow, I've been overlanding for years and didn't know it.

I think they are a great purchase is if you really are into jeeping and having extended off-road adventures....they not only make the off-roading experience that much better (no need to leave before dark to fine a place to stay and no need to waste money on hotels, but they solve the issues of crap RTTs, they expand cargo capacity of the Jeep since you don’t need to leave space inside to sleep, and they do have pretty good resale value. I think it makes the jeeping experience that much better, and I will be placing a deposit on one as soon as they become available for the JL.

The gobi rack plus a good RTT is a hard combo to beat. That being said, I still really like the setup the UM provides, its simple and super clean!

Post some pics of yours on a JL when it happens!

Guess I'm not really into extended off-road adventures and never wheel into the night. I mean holy hell, $10-13k will get you staying at a ton of nice hotels and for years to come. If anything, at that price, I'd be looking at a trailer as at least with it, I can completely remove it from my Jeep. But then, that's just me.
