Some people are epic in their hate making them look ridiculous.

My first love was something I never owned. What I ended up with as a 1st vehicle to drive in an open field behind my parents' house at 14 years old was similar to this. My mom was pissed at my dad for getting it for my brother and me to learn to drive stick shift. We beat the snot out of it.

Gotcha. I used to align shafts for turbines, and Starrett was the only name you saw on the precision measuring equipment.

What problems would one have with Starrett? Their tools are (were?) the benchmark that all other precision tools tried to be. Have they gone to cheaper parts? Foreign sourcing? As a former Millwright, where I had to be dead on to the 1/10,000th", the brand name had to live up to the hype.
