I am not sure what is "retarded" about noting that the Walkman brought about a new era where people walk around with buds in their ears all the time, oblivious to the rest of the world, and losing the friendly relationships which used to be common.

Before the Walkman, people were cordial to each other and would greet people ("Hi", "How's it going", etc) as they encountered each other. Now it is rare for people to be friendly to each other as they pass. 😕
