Sector Shaft Brace

I've been seeing these Sector Shaft Brace's around. Do you think they are a gimmick or a legit solution to saving your steering box and track bar mount from damage and tightening everything up? Steersmarts and Synergy both make one. Seems like mostly a preventative thing. I have a JK but they make them for JL too.

I’ve only ever seen one sector shaft break. Never ran one on my jeeps but not totally sure they are a gimmick. A broken sector shaft on the trail is about one of the worst breaks as there is no fix for it with a replacement.

Oh and steersmarts can suck a fat one.

Why the hate on Steersmarts? I personally have no experience with them but people are obsessed with them on the East Coast area, doesn't mean they are good though haha, people obsess over all kinds of stupid things. I have no opinion either way. Did they treat you poorly or just not a fan of their items?

They're far from being a gimmick but also far from actually being necessary or at least, not since the CJ days when the steering box mounts were flimsy and would tear off. Back in 2018, back when Jeep was still using an aluminum steering box, they helped to stiffing things up but since they moved over to iron boxes, they haven't been needed.

People who are "obsessed" with a company just tells me that they spend way too much time on social media.

If nothing else, this is what I have personally seen regarding quality.

So with me having a 2015 JK, it could be worth doing?

LOL - not like I can't afford to make upgrades. I just make the ones that I know I actually need and let the obsessed church up what they saw and bought because of social media.
Speaking of which, and you may have a video I've missed about this, for specifically the JK, do you have a list of must have upgrades that you personally recommend? The ones that are a must and the ones that are a maybe and ones that are probably a waste of time? I know you do a lot of JL/JT stuff now but that would be awesome! I know it does depend a bit on what you do with your Jeep though.

As you may or may not be aware, I've been doing JK installs and write-ups since it came out back in 2006. You can find a list of them with links here:

Unfortunately, we don't have a video on what you're wanting. That said, "must have" is very relative to each person and how it will used and this is to say nothing about budget. Me personally, tow points front and rear and rocker guards are "must haves". Everything else just depends on what you actually need.

Rocker Guards are something I've been thinking about doing. I have regular running boards someone else put on but I would never trust them against a rocks, yes they are steel but don't protect the pinch seal well. Do you have some favorites like Rockslider or something?

On a JK, I liked the LoD Signature Series that I had for awhile.

That said, if you can weld or are okay with a shop doing the install, EVO frame mounted sliders is what I still use today.

I fell into their marketing, and they were "so" helpful and nice when buying but... when I had an issue a few months later, their customer service was shit, their tie rod boot failed and they blamed me. The cost of replacing the ends was stupid, I switched to Synergy.

I've got Synergy sector brace on my JLU, didn't pick up on the track bar being loose until it turned into DW and by then the brace holes were oblong.
I had the sector brace to firm up the aluminum steering box and removed it when Jeep swapped it for the steel version but glad I kept it and it now keeps the track bar firmly in place
