Where did your Jeep take You this Week?

Took a trip to Philadelphia with my girlfriend and her girls. Got to see some sites and attractions. As many times as I asked and begged to my girlfriends dismay, Eastern State Penitentiary would not allow me to drive in for pics. I was bummed to say the least. So it wasn't technically "my" Jeep (but it was my rental Jeep!)... which allowed me to do some light "off-roading" and exploring along the northwest coast of the Big Island. Just got back this evening and am looking forward to some real off-roading with my own JKHR this October in the Sierra [emoji41]IMG_8263.jpgIMG_8260.jpg P.S. The stock rental Jeep was actually pretty awesome on the steep, rocky and rutted trails...it was the stock tires that concerned me!

Sadly, to the funeral of a very close friend of mine of 10+ years and a fallen fire fighter. There was a very large Jeep presence here flying the colors in his honor [emoji1306]

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Very cool that you were able to honor him in this way though.

Explored the Alabama Hills/Movie Road on Sunday. Nothing extreme, just cool to drive through the rock formations and see where many old Westerns and other movies have been filmed over the years.

Lol. It's quite possibly my favorite upgrade to the Jeep! 😂

My son and I took Fiona out on our very first off road run in Last Chance Canyon (see the Wayalife newbie run from a few years back for a reference). Never been off road before. Found out later that we were running 80psi in the tires. Stopped at HF to buy a jack and a tire iron on the way out of town. This is how wet behind the ears we were.

We ran the trail with no issues and were having a blast! Came up the the last obstacle - "Graduation Hill" - and there was a guy in a FJ that was all decked out in a total mall crawler style. He was aired down, though. 😎 He had 3 girls with him and was obviously trying to impress them.

I shit you not, for 20 minutes this guy was trying to figure out how to get up the wall and tried 2 or 3 different lines before he finally made it up. I had my son walk up to the top to give me an idea of the best way to go.

When the FJ was clear of the trail, I threw Fiona in 4lo, locked the diffs, aimed her at the wall, and she did the rest. When I crested the top of the wall, all of the FJ folks were watching with their mouths open.

The guy stopped me and said, "You made that look so easy!" I just looked at him and the girls and said, "Maybe next time you should buy a Jeep!" 😂😂

For my birthday, I received a package from my son who was overseas by this time. In it was this tire cover. Every time I look at it, it makes me smile! I probably get more comments on that than anything else on her. 👍

After exploring the Movie Road, we made our way to Manzanar. This was the first of 10 Japanese relocation camps in use during WWII. Yes, the US locked up people of Japanese descent - even if they were citizens - for 3 years. If you've never heard of this dark piece of US history, I suggest you read up or better yet, drive out there and experience it.

For those that are for the removal of historic statues, landmarks, etc, I say let them stand so we never forget our mistakes and our future generations learn from them.

Middle fork 2017 083.jpg

Snow, rain, mud, and winching.... we made it into the Middle Fork Jeep trail and out doing 28 river crossings! Fun day... but cleaning the jeep was a task!

Couple weeks ago I decided on a whim that I really needed to get out and disconnect from people and everything so I ran down to some land that I own in Southern Colorado to chill for a bit.

Saw plenty of these guys running around. A little surprising with hunting season so close.

And of course a visit to a near-by Transcontinental Airway Beacon. There is no arrow or tower present on this one but with some research I was able to confirm that it is in fact Beacon #48 on the route from El Paso to Pueblo.

Glad you got away for a little bit. Looks like a sweet spot.
