I bought a dana 60 for Baboozle last year for his Willie's project. It didn't work out for him and I bought the as soon as he offered it. I got it home. Took off the drums and brake assembly's. I was doing research on and couldn't find anything that matched. I measured the ring gear and turned out to be 10.5". I found the bill of material number, Googled it, found out it's a dana 70 from an '85 f350. Cleaned the axle of the rust and got a axle swap kit from ruff ruff stuff

Front axle plans yet?

Sent from my iPhone using WAYALIFE mobile app

Got a few ideas. Either gonna stick with my current 44 and use the 5.13 gear set I have for and get wheel adapters. Or narrow a 60. But with a 60 the coil buckets are 1.5" wider than factory so I'd either have bowed springs or upgrade to kings, and if I put kings up front, gotta put them in the rear too.

Got the hubs cleaned and some acid etch primer on them

Found that I had an upper control arm break off on the front axle. It must have cracked and worked it's way to breaking off. That'll have to get fixed before I move on with the rear swap. I pulled the front axle out and took out the driver side bushing.

Got the new bracket from artec. The axle is back in my jeep. Now I can get back to the rear. Picked up a pair of rotors but they don't fit on the hubs, I think machining the hubs would be the best way to get the two to fit together.

Picked the pair of rotors ruffstuff uses for their disc brake conversion. They didn't fit on the hubs. Rhe shoulder that the drums seated on was too big. I machined the hubs so the rotors would fit. I chose to machine the hubs so I would only have to machine something once, and not have to machine the rotors every time I changed them, all be it not very often, still.

Made some progress, tacked o. All the brackets and some repairs from going out in the snow. Upgraded my winch to a zeon 10 and had to replace a brake line that I'm pretty sure my tire chains pulled out.

My disc brake caliper adapter brackets came today. Got those bolted on. I also ordered a fuel cell kit from motobilt to move the gas tank to behind the rear seat, can't wait for it to get here. I think I'll have to put it in before I start test fitting the new axle, it'll also set me up better for an eventual comp cut.

I'm with OBSJ... That is one stout setup you have there!! Thanks for sharing!:beer:

While I'm waiting for the fuel cell to come in. I picked up a piece of .190" thick 4130 to make a ring gear spacer. I plan on gearing the axles to 5.13. The carrier break is at 4.56 and the current gear set is using the wrong carrier for the gears I want to use. Making the spacer was cheaper than buying a new carrier. It should hold me over until I can get an arb.
