Skyline Drive, Virginia

AZVAJKU

Hooked
A couple of times a year we drive a section of the Skyline Drive. It’s a beautiful drive and each of the seasons has its own highlights. The fall is probably the most scenic so we thought we would head out to see how the leaves were doing.

Description of the Skyline Drive from the internet:

‘Skyline Drive is a 105-mile National Parkway that runs the entire length of the National Park Service's Shenandoah National Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, generally along the ridge of the mountains. The drive's northern terminus is at an intersection with U.S. Route 340 near Front Royal, and the southern terminus is at an interchange with US 250 near Interstate 64 in Rockfish Gap, where the road continues south as the Blue Ridge Parkway.’

On the way out of our neighborhood to grab breakfast we saw this:

Rural Virginia is very freedom loving. It was one of the original 13 Colonies and lots of people still treasure self-determination.

Breakfast time. Cocktails while waiting for chicken and waffles.

We will be driving the northern most part from point 5 ending at 1.

Last week it was in the 80’s but fall has finally arrived and it’s a bit nippy today! I really love the heated seats and steering wheel, I’ve gotten soft in my old age!

As we climb in elevation the temperature drops a bit. 🥶

I love half doors- especially when equipped with premium uppers. 😂🤣

The leaves are just starting. Next week and the week after should be awesome!

Not sure what’s going on here. The west side of the tree is on the left, maybe because it gets more sun the leaves have stayed green? 🤔

Luckily the black bear here are not that big or aggressive, and are usually well fed. In fact the one that’s always in our yard is bigger than what we normally see in the park.

Looks like a cool trip I’ve always wanted to go spend some time in that country but life seems to get in the way 🤣

Time to stop for cocktails and lunch. Front Royal is just outside the north entrance of the park. It’s a cool little town on the Shenandoah River.

One of our favorite watering holes. It’s an old gas station converted to a BBQ and tap house

Headed back to the house to get ready for the week. This work stuff is really harshing my buzz! 🤣😂🤣

This place has a huge amount of firewood stocked up for sale this winter. Notice the pickup truck for size reference.

Cool little country road.

Speedy Cracker ran great! It’s way too easy to speed without meaning to do so, I found myself exceedingly it many times. Luckily lovely wife does a great job reminding me what the speed limit is. 😜

Anything over 10 mpg is a bonus in this beast. Honestly I don’t care how many mpg it gets, it’s all about the smiles per gallon.

When I was in Florida and we had to visit the in-laws in Maryland, we would take the Blue Ridge and Skyline Drive to or from. Such a beautiful area!
