The transfer case on your Jeep JL Wrangler or JT Gladiator is what makes them a 4WD and just like everything else on your Jeep, it’s something that needs to be serviced on a regular basis. If you have a manual transmission, that should be about once 30,000 miles and if you have an automatic, that should be about once every 60,000 miles but with at least a check of it at every 30. Being that Cindy and I spend a lot of our time out on the trail, we just make it a habit of changing the fluid at every 30 and regardless if the Jeep we’re working on has a manual or automatic. Fortunately, this super easy to do and doing it yourself will save your a LOT of money.

Great video. Just wondering why the difference in maintenance interval between manual and auto trans?

loved the outtake at the end.

Informative video and I really appreciate the links to the items needed, what a great time saver!

Ripley Cam is a great bonus! 😀

Great video. I have done mine, easy to do. I always find it’s better to change fluid more often. Ripley always steals the show.

Won't lie, I don't really know. Just going off of what's in the manual. Of course, I always work off off the 30k intervals regardless.
Thank you :)
Just did the same... pretty painless. Thanks for sharing. Great Blooper.. Lol
Oh yeah, super easy to do and glad you enjoyed the blooper 🤪

As usual, enjoy the videos and educational material! Well done!
Glad to hear you find our videos to be educational :)

When it's this easy to do, changing out the fluid on a more regular basis isn't such a bad thing. Glad you enjoyed seeing Ripley :)

Hi Eddy and Cindy
Two things first I was hoping you where going to put this out I figured it was getting to be about that time ( transfer case Fluid change) now I am wondering when you will do the transmission? Second thank you so much for the replace auxiliary battery Video I just replaced both batteries last weekend with your video no problem. Hope all is well with you guys although I’m a little shocked that you sold jet. That jeep was a big inspiration for me to get mine anyway looking forward to 2022 with you guy's

Happy to hear our battery video was helpful to you!

Regarding transmissions, the all new 8-speed automatic is considered to be "serviceless" as in, you really shouldn't need to change the fluid for at least 100k miles or more. They don't even have dip sticks now. I will get to it but once one of my Jeeps get to a point where I think it should be changed.

Excellent thank you

New to the forum. I am planning on changing the transmission fluid 3.6 2020 Unlimited Rubicon. I have looked at the service schedule and it is recommended at 60K. I have only found one video on you tube but would really enjoy one from you. I only have 33K on it now but noticed the transfer case was a little milky when I changed it @ 30K so I am going to change the transmission fluid. Any thoughts ?

The 8-speed auto is considered to be "serviceless" as in, you shouldn't have to touch it for at least 100k miles. This is the reason why it doesn't even have a dip stick. Now, if you have a manual transmission, you are correct in that a service should be performed at 60k. See maintenance schedule here:

That said, I would love to help you with a service video or write-up but I am nowhere close to 100k miles and I do intend to wait until then. I really see no reason to touch it before then.
