would you trade up??

so i have been having mixed feelings and was wondering what other people might do? the question is over a trade, its my 2012 gecko sport with 37s and 4.5 long arm with about 27000 miles for a 2013 black rubicon with 3 miles? so has anyone done this and hated the trade, i have done all the work myself so i do have hours into it but thats no factor when it comes to feeeling i have for my jeep as it is part of my family now. just looking for any ideas or help.

My 2 cents are if you are happy with your existing Jeep then be happy with that for a couple of reasons. First, once you go back to stock, you will not be happy and want to mod the new one. Second, 27000 mile 2012 is not much different than a 2013 with 3, it is just newer, not really different, minus the obvious Rubi versus sport options. Plus you have to start all over with the initial investment, I am assuming your financing.

So whatever the Rubi has that you like, invest in the one you own and make it yours.

If you built it up they way you want it then why trade? Is it just because the 2013 is a rubicon? Also how big of a hit will you take on a trade or sale? If you really like your current set up then keep driving.

I agree with statement above and would like to add to it. If you have say a 2011 sport then I would say upgrade mainly just for the 3.6 over the 3.8. That's what I almost did earlier this year but found out that financially it was better for me to keep my current jeep and just continue to build it

The Rubi is cool and all with the front d44, 4.1 transfer case, 4.10 gears, lockers and e disco. However there is a flaw with the e disco, they apparently are faulty, especially in a wet climet like the northeast coast. The E lockers don't hold up too well either once you put larger tires on. The 4.10's are nice but going with anything larger than a 33 you will want to regear anyways.

So the only real advantages I see are the front d44 and the 4.1 transfer case. A cool thing is if you enjoy building your Jeep and doing work then this could be a chance to have some more stuff to do

So all in all if these things are worth it to you then by all means go and get it.

By the way, a black rig is a royal pain in the ass to keep clean.

Now I did notice your thinking of trading up to a "Black" Rubi. Now that is almost reason alone because we all know "Once you go black, you never go back!".

Ok, I'll play... So you have 37's and a 4.5 long arm right? Pull the long arm and wheels off send it back to stock config and put the long arms and wheels on the new one. I'm sure you still have the pull off parts, just put em back on and wahlah you've got your lift and wheels for the new JKR. As long as its a 2 door you have a complete lift kit. May require an investment of a few hundred bucks in replacing the stock control arm mounts but thats still cheaper than buying a new lift for the new jeep.

Considering the resale value of used jeeps you shouldn't be too bad financially but you're still going to take a hit for a few grand. Now considering that 2-3-4 grand hit consider all the mods you could do for say 3 grand. Lets just look at the "upgrade mods" to get to Rubi level. The only real upgrades in a rubi is the transfer case, lockers and front D44. If you're going to take a 2k hit -theres your pro rock 44, 3k hit- theres your Pro Rock 44 and half of your ARB lockers, 4k- Pro rock 44 and ARB lockers. Now the only thing left would be the Atlas transfer case at 3k and you've got a better than stock Rubi with 37's and long arm that you already own. And it's a Gecko... although there aren't any good rhymes that go with Gecko it's still one of the coolest colors ever available on a Jeep. :twocents::twocents:

Ya it would have been a grand for the upgrade as is on the jeep, so i would lose the lift. I have thought hard over the last two days and after this i think it helped me as a little just to what i was thinking which is to pass on the deal and keep building my gecko as i have a lot in it and not so much left to do to get to the rubicon stage.

Seems as if you've made a decision and the correct one at that but I'll still leave my two cents.

I go back and forth all the time with what I want to own. I love my '13 JK to pieces but I'm in my "I want a fast sports car/muscle car" state right now being that I'm only 21. Then other days I think, "I'm going to be married in less than 10 months and I know we're going to have kids so I want a JKU." Basically, I go back and forth all the damn time. I always come back to "sit on your thumbs, stay content, save your money and buy more Jeep shit!" I usually come to this conclusion because my fiancee would kill me if I brought home a used Camaro SS and I cannot afford a $500+ per month payment on a JKU. I am enjoying modifying my JK no matter how slowly it may be going so I always sleep well at night after I fight with myself contemplating trading in or not.

So what I'm trying to say is, you're not alone in considering trading up for something better. You just have to think hard and take everything into consideration.

All the rubicon gets you is a shiny new set of junk factory axles and a crappy swaybar that'll take a dump in no time. You can get rubi tcases all day from motech for $500 and your sport tcase I believe. Keep the sport and finish the job:beer:

As I said contact motech. They pull the rubi cases for LS swaps and use the sport case. They post on another forum and offer the trade often. The price I gave was IF you give them your 2007+ sport tcase along with cash for the rubi case. Several members of that forum have made the trade with them. It's not top secret.

Honestly of you're not trading into a JKU Rubi then stay the course. Your JK is sick as is. New upgrades will just mean more beer, pizza and install parties.

I agree with the guys on this! I have been in the same situation that you are, and kept my sport, it's MY jeep, and it'll stay :standing wave:
