Wet passenger seat and floorboard?

So I bought a used soft top '11 JKU a couple of weeks ago, and tonight was the first night it sat out in a storm. When I got off of work this morning, I found that my passenger seat was soaked, along with the passenger floor board. I took the floor mat out and it was dripping. There was so much water I couldnt believe it. The rest of the Jeep was fine from what I can tell. Anyone else ever have this problem?

I have an 11 JKUS with a hard top and found if I tighten the back screws too much it leaks. I stop by a car wash and use their vacuum to suck up the water.

That's nice of you to occasionally do that. Most car wash vacs here have a "no water" sign on them because it ruins them

this has happened to me tons of times before. i wish i knew what caused it. any storm from a drizzle to a down pour and it was there. within the past 8 months (right before Hurricaine Sandy) it stopped and even sandy didnt bother it. IDK what it was but it just stopped. sorry im not able to help at all with this

Is your header bar sitting flush at the top of the windshield? If not this could be part of the problem. Also check the little rubber gasket at the windshield where the door surround meets it. Make sure that the gasket is sitting right and not folded underneath the door surround. I can take a picture later of what I'm talking about if you are having trouble finding it. Those two things should help.

Make sure the gaskets are clean and wipe them with a little armor-all so that they slide against each other smoothly while you are tightening it up.

I had a small leak right over the rear view mirror so I did that and I haven't had anymore leaks.

I could be out in left field here and someone with lots more JK knowledge may say I'm full o beans, but every vehicle with a fresh air intake has a drain to run off rainwater and a/c condensation. They sometimes get plugged with dirt, debris, bugs, and small animals (just kidding) and overflow into the cabin. I'm thinkin', if all else fails, it's worth a look see especially if you park under a tree. Good luck!:yup:

The floor was dry when I got to work cause I grabbed my shoes to change into them. And while at work we had a really bad storm. And when I was leaving I grabbed the previous shoes I had on (that were on the floorboard) and I realized they were soaked. So I started feeling around and realized the floor and seat were wet.

Here's a picture of my hand print after pushing down on the seat... I figured that passenger seat had that white look from getting wet before (thought maybe a window was left down), but in reality, every time the previous owner had it out in the rain it got soaked.

I had this same problem with my 2007 2door rubicon what I did was on the top windshield seal I put black silicone in the rain channel it has and then replaced my header on my soft top to a metal one and it has not leaked since the water is coming from a gap in your soft top and your windshield the two latches don't hold the middle down so when it rains water gets in and fills that channel so when the channels filled the water goes threw the channel and drips threw the doors.

Thanks! I'll check that out

I had the same problem in my 4 door with a hardtop. The above mentioned comment about tightening the screws too tight was my problem too. You tighten em too hard and it lifts the front up just enough to get water under there. I just stopped using the screws altogether :thumb:

Mine did this when I got it. They had a different header gasket designed and had to go with that. It has a channel to route the water better. Was about $150-200 at the dealer.
I noticed that when I don't fold the top right when its down that the top doesn't seal right when I put it back on.
Maybe this will help ya.

I never had any problems in my old 2011 that had a hard top but I do remember once when I took it in for a free oil change at the stealership, they told me that they fixed a recall issue regarding some weather seal that would leak above the passenger front seat.

with my 2012, I have a trektop NX, occasionally, i discover that the carpet in the rear drivers side passenger area gets damp... haven't found the culprit yet.

I may have to call and see if there is a recall...
