This article by Scott Brady was originally published about a month ago but, at the time, I was still busy wrapping up SEMA stuff and totally forgot about it until now. Anyway, I don't know how many of you actually head down to Nicaragua or the Artic Circle but, this is a list of the 10 best used vehicles he would choose for exploring the world. Check it out and let us know what you think :yup:

The Ten Best Used Vehicles For Exploring The World
original.png

Near endless forum threads and email discussions surround the best used expedition vehicle choice, so we compiled a complete and complex group of options and then debated, tweaked and lined them up in order. This is not the 'safe' list of just Toyotas and Land Rovers, but a list that reflects vehicles available to purchase in the USA and then driven around the world.

It is a list of vehicles that are actually being used to drive in the remote places of the world. This is not a list of 'rock crawlers', but a list of serious exploration options for adventure travel. I apologize in advance if your favorite truck didn't make the list. In the end, you should drive what you really love and who cares what some guy like me thinks, but if you are currently looking for a used vehicle to head down to Nicaragua in, then this is a good place to start.

Toyota is on there a lot because they have been and still are highly available around the world. Of course, I don't know too many people who wheel outside of their own state let alone the next country and you'll easily find more Jeeps and parts of any kind for them anywhere here in the US than you could a Toyota running Icon suspension system.

One of the vehicles we were looking at when we bought the jeep was a MB wagon. Who knew I could have been an overlander in that too?

And for the record I think the G-wagons are bad ass! Just too expensive my for my tastes. :grayno:

I will take the JEEP over any of them. I had a FJ Cuz. It did good, had very min. flex

I had an FJ before too.... Great vehicle but my JKU is 10xs better! As for me I tell anyone looking to get into this sport to buy either a used Jeep, or any 80's Toyota pick up NOT SUV. Both the jeeps and the old yotas are very reliable and easy to work on too (great for noobs) of course I usually point them in the direction of a yj or tj tho!

I just love how the discovery gets bashed for awful reliability. I'll let my parents know that... While my jeep stares at it from the other side of the driveway:)

Good article but they forgot one important factor: Parts availability for when you break. Example: Tacomas parts are very hard to come by outside the US. Toyota makes the Hilux for the rest of the world and the parts are not interchangeable.
