Solar Freakin' Roadways

Caught the Bug
Not sure if this was posted before*...

*I'm sure Adam will let me know though. ;)

I watched this the other day too. While it is a cool infomercial to try and raise money, I have to question the real world functionality. Then of course there is the cost. The gubberment is already robbing the highway funds at both the state and federal level to pay for the welfare state. If they did, I could see it turn into another "bullet" train. Maybe the first stretch of solar roads will connect Fresno to Bakersfield :hmm:

.....what "big oil" has to do with any of it...

I think that is the point of what is trying to be made. The more that something is in demand, especially a finite resource like oil, the higher the premium to be charged to use it. So with the advent of any new technology that forces less dependency on fossil fuels, means the price for the the (now not needed as much) fossil fuel drops due to a possible overabundance of it. Personally, I would love to driving my 12mpg Jeep on 40" tires even more than I do now if fuel prices at the pump were back to sub $2.00 prices. Is this all a pipe dream, maybe. But if we could someday soon tell the oil producing middle east countries/Russia/China/Venezuela "thanks, but we won't be needing anymore tankers". I think that warrants a closer look at any fuel supplemental technology like this.

Couldn't have said it better.

I also COMPLETELY hate our dependence on foreign energy sources of any kind (not to mention the fact that I have good men that I consider brothers over there fighting/dying for someone else's fight that I believe has energy at it's source more so than "freedom" ) and would also love a break at the pump due to the supply going through the roof. BUT, blindly blaming "big oil" for the cost of energy is nuts. It's the federal government, namely the FDA, that is to blame for the cost of energy in this country and it's only going to get worse if they don't start letting us drill here or harvest the IMMENSE amounts of natural gas that we have right here in our own beautiful country.

If "big oil" died so would our country, provided that those companies and all of their employees and all of the tax revenues that they create weren't able to seamlessly move into another field.

Judging by your location you very well could be making a living in the oil and gas industry, so maybe you think you have more to lose from any threatening new technology :idontknow: Oil and gas companies aren't going anywhere, there is no other source of energy that can replace the power it creates when compared to any other "clean energy".

I actually don't work in the industry, I just live in a city that it's quite apparent that oil and gas is what's holding it together. So, I probably do have a different appreciation for "big oil" than a lot of people do.

My biggest complaint is people blindly hating "BIG _____" and not really knowing what they are talking about. For example, all those snot nosed punks throwing parties "boycotting" big business while talking on their iPhones and tweeting on their iPads. The hypocrisy and stupidity behind all of these "SCREW BIG _____" just gets me fired up.

I don't know if that's what he was getting at or not and I'm sure that I am overly crazy in my reactions to it... but I just don't friggin get it.
