questionning... tire change!

hey guys, I have an opportunity to trade my 35 duratracs with just above 20 000km on them, for a set a 37 toyo's open country M/T. I'm gonna go take a look a them this afternoon.

Would you guys to the trade? I know this guy a little, and he has installed them almost at the same time I bought mine, and he's not running them in the winter, so I guess they should not be worn out so much. I'm gonna bring my measurement tool and see how much thread left they have.

There's one thing that bother me though, the spare does not match, still don't know what brand it is. And also the fact that here, winter tires will be obligatory in 2014, and toyo's are not approved as winter tires.

I would trade him if the Toyo's had at least 75% tread left. The only negative is they aren't winter approved where you live.
 
Toyo's are awesome tires but, if you do a lot of snow driving, I think the Duratracs will have the edge on them. The 37's are also 13.50's and you need to be aware of that as it will prove to be a problem if you have too much back spacing.
 
Gonna buy a set of wheels with 4,0 BS so i think ita gonna be alright, but the winter approval really bother me though

4" of BS is not enough. You will need 3.5" or else you will have rubbing at a full flex and turning. You will most likely get rubbing at a full turn too. They drive fine in snow if that's what you're concerned with but Duratracs will do it better.

Roger that, i guess i should stick with my duratracs then
 
I must say that winter is rough here, its not rare to reach -25f, so you can imagine that streets and roads are freaking slippery also
 
The toyos are not bad for snow, ice they are not so good, not enough sipping, I run mine year round but I have them sipped, but if you have to have approved snow tires that won't help you much. So I'd say what's cheaper? Buying a set of snow tires for winter, or a set of 37's?
 
Buying a set of winter tires would be a problem since the only big enough is the duratracs in 35, which i already have.
 
Bfg makes the AT in a 37" and is still snow rated, they are good snow tires, I had a set of 35's on my old truck.
 
The problem where we live is that, starting december 15th 2014, all tires wether it be on commercial vehicles or whatever must have winter tires with this symbol on it to be legal.

It's already required on all tires that don't have LT inscribed on them.

Now back to Holeshot... I drove my Toyo M/T's last winter and when there is less than 2" of snow on the ground they are very slippery because the rubber compound is very hard due to the cold. However they go great in slush and anything deeper than 2" you just adapt your driving to the weather and you'll be fine..

I know I did have to go somewhere last winter in the mountains up near Tremblancs and in the mountain roads were really icy, so I had to choice but to roll with the passenger side wheels in the snow bank and in 4hi to maintain control and be able to go, there were other cars weren't even attempting to try that road.
 
Well, i took a look and they're defenitely too worn out for them to be a good deal, too bad but at the same time ill have the peace of mind this winter
 
Just checked my BFG all terrains, they have the snowflake symbol on them, and they do make them in a 37 inch tire. Might be something to look into if you want a 37 that is winter rated.
 
Hey guys, I`m from Québec too. Been looking at the Duratracs but not sure which size. With cost being the main factor.
I`ve driven the last 2 years with the BF Goodrich AT and they`ve been alright. Got stuck once in Mud ( off a snowmobile trail uring degel ) and then another time in the winter ( stupid mistake ) .
Anyways the Duratracs will probably be my next purchase.
