Im trying to plan a trip for our jeep group that everyone of all skill sets will enjoy. We are located in Wilmington NC so we are on the beach year round. Looking for a fun day trip that we can involve all of our members.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Uwharrie OHV is your best choice. I've never had a bad time out there, and has trails that will test your 37" tire rigs and plenty of scenic trails. Awesome trails in a National Park

Yea that's what we are thinking about doing. I just didn't know of any other places that would also be fun

Don't forget about Gulches. There is also the Flats & the Shop. Just go on NC 4x4..

I agree with all of those places but OP was asking for a day trip from Wilmington, which really limits the options to just Uwharrie. The eastern part of the state sucks for wheeling.

I lived in Wilmington for 10 years. Gluches is very close Uwharrie . Matter fact. I just moved from there . To be quite honest I could take you on a whole day wheeling trip in Wilmington . Just got to know the spots...

You are speaking from experience so I trust you. OP, this guy knows your portion of the state better than myself. Sorry if I mislead anyone.

There is cool stuff off River Rd.,than Sutton lake, go up 421 and cross over to Rocky Point , Than Hamstead. If you still have fuel, finish up in Carolina Beach...You just have to go looking...[emoji111]🏼

Your fine bud, did not mislead at all. I just happen to be a redneck..you gave great advice I just wanted to add to the pot..

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back all the places you mentioned are private property or closed to vehicles and you can get in trouble. Also most of the guys in our group don't want to just go play in the mud. We are looking to go ride some trails with some views and just get back into God's country.

Good luck on planning your trip I would add to pot but only place I know of being close to Wilmington is uwharrie as well

Anyone heard about the trans-america trail?
I think it might not really start till Tennessee but thought I saw one version of the map (maybe not official) once of it staring around Wilmington..
I like cruising simple scenic offroad trails just us much as anything and can't believe there is so little on the east coast compared to what it seems like on the west coast..
You'd think there would be tons of places in the NC mountain area...ashville,etc... Probably are.. just not publicized

I know that in North GA there are plenty of scenic fire roads that make for a good adventure.

Yea our overland trip last October was 120 miles of forest service roads in the mountains of nc but that's a 5 hour drive from Wilmington to where we started our trip last year. We are planning on doing a week long waterfall overland trip this year going from state line to state line and looking to hit 20-30 using back roads and forest service roads.
