Moto/Dirt Bike Converts

Just wondering how many of you are ex Moto or desert riders?

I started riding at 5yrs old and rode hard until my mid 20's. I came over to the jeep side hoping to get my offroad fix without having to sacrifice my body (I've had my share of broken bones). Which so far has been working out great. No damage to the jeep or myself in 2 yrs :thumb:

Anyway just wanted to say hi to my Moto brothers...and sisters, got to love girls that ride :brows:

I prefer to consider myself a "currently inactive" moto and dez rider! My old man was a flat tracker back in the late 60's, so I also grew up riding from an early age and well into my late 30's running in the vet classes. I only considered a semi retirement from riding when one day I chopped the throttle on my 426 a little early on one of the easy medium triples at Elsinore and ended up endoing with the bike rear fender/subframe centerpunching me in the lower back. This resulted in a broken pelvis and 3 months off work. It was soon after this I decided that one day I would get another jeep. We still have a few bikes in the garage, and one of these days I'll get around to getting some tags on 1 or 2 for some dual sporting. Man it sucks to get old!!

Ouch, glad you recovered, that must have been brutal. I couldn't get use to the engine brake on thumpers, I always rode smokers on the track.

I think I'm going to use "currently inactive". I'm still too young to use the R word...

Been riding since I was 4. My first bike was a 1983 honda cr 60 which I still have. I rode all the time with my father and.all my friends. But Back in January last year I injured my back at work and had to give up my most favorite sport. I sold my 09 kx450f and my 2012 ford f150 to buy my '12jkur. I miss riding a lot cuz all my buddies still ride but im also having a lot of fun with the jeep, exploring new places and making new great friends from the forum.

I started riding at 9 years old and rode in the desert, mountains and dual sport bikes for 48 years until March of last year when I gave it up cold turkey and bought my YJ. I was hoping I would make the transition from 2 wheels to 4 without any "withdrawals" all due to the fact I can get a hernia at the drop of a hat! Well after healing from the last surgery I thought I got yet ANOTHER one raking dirt in the back yard! Can you believe it, raking dirt?

That made me realize that when I pickup my bike, at around 300 lbs, I could really put myself in trouble and I ride all over the desert here, to say the least it scared me, a LOT! That is when I made the decision to sell the bikes and get a Jeep.

So I got my little YJ, joined the local 4 wheel drive club, and have never looked back! I am having the time of my life with this thing and can't wait for the day when I can get a newer Jeep that is a little better equipped, you know, AIR CONDITIONING!!!! Not having AC out in the desert is a little brutal to say the least.

I feel that I made the best decision for ME, nobody else, and have not regretted it one single bit. Now I do have to say that making that decision made my wife VERY happy! :D

What's up! Welcome..
I have both and just trade addictions. Started riding at age 6 and compete in our local AMA club off road series. The jeep and bike fight for my time but with it so hot now in phx the bikes not getting any seat time!

Thanks. It was pretty rough to say the least! I picked up a used Rubi last year after getting rid of my old cj5 many years ago to get another bike. Definitley cant say I'm dissapointed though, we are loving the jeep. Gone are the days of only dropping a couple huns $$ for springs and revalve, re gearing etc. for the bike. Nowadays its a little bit more. Modding the bikes almost seem cheap now!! LOL

Well I myself grew up ripping up the des onn my bikes till I broke my back on my YZF 450. I then took about 6 yrs to figure out what I had to do to keep myself out in.the off road scene since that was my and still is my passion. I tried quads and have never really like them so I picked up my second jeep aboit 7 months ago and have felt great since. Im now back in the saddle doimg what I love even tho its not on a bike. But yes I would still get on one!!!!!

I've been riding a CRF250 since I was about 17. 26 now, and when I was 21 I broke my arm racing at Comp Edge in Victorville. It took 4 years and 4 surgeries to fix my arm that broke in 6 places. Needless to say, I got my JKR at 25 and it took care of the need for dirt for a while. I did go back to riding a little bit after all the surgeries and the OK from the Dr, but then I tore my MCL in my left knee which set be back about 3 months. I've been riding a couple times since then, and now I want to get an enduro. I try to take it easy, but I just can't let it go. All my friends got the hint, because now they all have rhinos and sand rails. I only have a few buddies left with dirt bikes. There is an old saying... With age comes a cage.

I grew up on bikes, raced moto cross for a little while, moved to atv's, but a broken back and two blown knees caught up with me so I ending up going to a less physical form of off road.
