Caught the Bug
I have been looking for jobs in the park service. I have a BA in Justice Studies and been trolling usajobs.gov pretty hard but not many responses yet. Anyone have any other ideas? Know of any positions open?

Those jobs are generally pretty coveted, and usually they go to veterans and ex leos...not an easy gig you get...you're not the only one that wants Moab as their office. :D Best of luck....I think I would love being a park ranger.

Well granted Moab would be my ideal choice but I have applied from everywhere from Texas to Michigan to Washington through to California and every place in between.

One key item that has been presented to me when submitting my resume is to use the target words in the job posting. With the automation of resume review in order to make it from application to the next level your resume goes through a computer screening program that looks for target or key phrases. If the exact wording is not there your resume will get passed over.

[Edit] If you take a lower paying job to get into the system then you will have a better chance at moving up with in. Most jobs are posted to current employees before going public. This is how the Federal Goverment GS system works. I had a buddy who applied for a GS-4 job that pays about $36k a year to a GS-9 job that pays close to $70k a year in 9 months. He just needed to get his foot in the door.

Not sure what you are looking for but we are hiring at the San Diego Sheriff's Office. Great place to work and plenty of oppurtunities. Lots of movement and positions. We have rural enforcement live in mountains or desert, take home expeditions and a 10% premium to live out there. I have been with them 24 years. Lots of places to jeep only a few hrs away at most too
