Is my tranny leaking?

Caught the Bug
Found this while poking around underneath tonight. What's happening there and what do I need to do?1423711629039.jpg1423711638839.jpg1423711660674.jpg

Did you change the fluid recently? Is the fill plug loose?

It doesn't look like its the pan seal because it's wet above that.

Haven't done anything with it. The last work underneath was putting in Currie front LCAs and engine oil change. No transmission work.

Could easily be gasket on the pan, air moving +vibration +"oil" of any kind = one big mess every where. It probably only leaks under pressure. How many miles are on it? If it's over 60k might wanna just have it serviced, that would include the pan seal. Or do the service your self *shrugs *

Just turned 50k

With the EVO Protek (2011, auto) transmission skid plate does the sump pan bolts get taken out then put back in with the skid? I was thinking about doing the skid and if I need to work on the tranny might as well do the skid at the same time.

Sry I can't help on this one any one with skids wanna chime in?

I can't comment on the protek skid but I would recommend cleaning the oil off the pan and surrounding area. Drive around a bit and check for any fluid leaking.

Bump for this question!

I cleaned off the sump pan over the weekend and have driven a fair amount since. I cannot tell if anything else has leaked out. I run my finger over the area that appeared to be covered in tranny fluid but my fingers come back virtually clean. The area above the pan, though, still looks and feels the same; a little damp and the area is dark of course. I wasn't really able to clean it. I'll just keep watching it.

I hope you're able to determine the source soon. I hate leaks that I can't find so that I can fix them right away.

I used straight simple green and it cleaned the pan off completely. The transmission itself seemed harder to clean. Perhaps a degreaser would be better. I'll check the bolts next.

Either product will work better after a short soak and some pressurized water. Check the bolts first though, so you don't accidentally force water past the gasket (and don't focus on the gasket with the pressure washer).

If you have a good nose, you can wipe some off and smell to see if it tranny fluid or engine oil. My money is on the pan gasket (but I am a terrible gambler).
