Is it me...

...or is buying a Jeep and keeping it stock, like buying a blank canvas and hanging it on the wall. Throw some paint on that bitch! I kind of scratch my head with all the stock Jeeps riding around. I wave at them all, and I seem to get a confused look by them every time. I don't think most realize that they're even driving a Jeep.

And if you're a member of this site and have a stock Jeep, rock on! Cause I know you have some mods... somewheres. :thumb:
And in no way do I mean to step on anyones toes with this post. Just a question.

I can relate

Stock jeeps are like babies, some take longer then others to grow up. :naw:

At the same time people keeping them stock and just mall crawling helps to preserve the jeeps for us to buy used without much wear & tear!

We have lots of stockers in my neck of the woods and I prefer seeing them over the blingers with chrome 24s and rubber bands. With our terrain though you really don't need more than a stock sport setup with 33s, for me it's more about the fun of modding and making it your own. For the waving, aside from a few regulars I pass that don't wave, everyone waves stock or modded. For those known ones that don't wave, I don't bother trying anymore.

It's a vehicle that appeals to that person. Not every person buys a jeep to do what most on this site enjoy doing. Some buy jeeps because it looks cool or because you can take the top off or because its a jeep, everyone has heard of jeep.

Not everyone lifts a big truck or lowers there Honda civic and puts a fart can on it. (Although most do :cheesy:)

It's strange but I really don't, and never have, cared for the look of a stock wrangler. I think they need some bigger tires and a little lift to look right.

My wife has become the same way. If we see a stock wrangler, we both "awwww" like we just saw an abused pet.

couple more weeks and mine won't be the stock blank canvas anymore. just the mirror kits and some taller springs for now. more stuff coming soon.

I was at the dealership prior to departing for deployment and an elderly couple was looking at getting a new JK just so they can go to their retirement cabin in the mountains of North Carolina. That is all they wanted it for. I have seen a lot of snow birds in Florida with jeeps that are completely stock. Honestly most people just do not know where to get parts for their jeeps. I did not until I joined this forum. Educations is where it starts.

That's understandable... They have mountains. These seem to be strictly "mall crawlers"

I find most people don't realize how easy it is to BB lift ur jeep and or add mods. Not every mod is hard and requires mechanical experts to install. Most of my friends are like wow that must be so hard they don't think they can do it so they don't bother. I don't mind a stock jeep at all but when I see nothing that makes it yours and yours alone that makes me sad. It can be anything just do something even seat covers something that shows you care about her lol

Yeah I get a lot of "you installed it' remarks about my 3.5 lift. I proudly give them the " I am an effn rocket scientist" look . It really is amazing how intimidated people are about a few nuts and bolts.

I have a stock 2013 Sport but I have a lot of stuff on my list: bumpers, lights, wheels, tires, maybe a couple inches of lift. Money is tight with 2 kids in college so it will take time.

Lots of jeeps here in Colorado, and more then a few are driven by the soccer mom crowd. They just look at you confused when you wave. My rubicon is pretty much stock for now, just some smaller upgrades like OBA and an sPOD and rigid duallys but the good stuff is coming. I bought my rig used with 40,000 miles on it, it's a 2008 and it was very well taken care of prior to my ownership. I saw a lady the other day buying a 10th anniversary rubi unlimited and trading in a Buick SUV.... I look at it as that's who I want to buy my next jeep from. :D

I know in my neck of the woods alot of people don't go 4 wheeling . they just buy Jeeps in case there's some snow on the ground or something . I think it's a shame

I wave at all jeeps except the o es I see with the rental stickers in the windshield. For the jeeps with stock wheels I make the comment aww look he still has training wheels makes the wife crack up everytime.

My 2012 is stock for now. I want my first "accessory" to be the title. No use in modifying the bank's Jeep.

Over the years I've owned three heavily modded CJ's and now a stock 2012 JKUR. While the JK is surprisingly capable off road, there is so much more to be had with even modest upgrades. So I'm cruising around in Scottsdale with a stone stocker and rubbing elbows with Hummers, Range Rovers, and JK's with 20's. Don't get me wrong, there are some really hardcore rigs here that are clearly used for their intended purpose. They're in the minority. I wave at all JK's I see and hope they wave at me through their illegally tinted windows. Even when the build is complete my JK won't be JK Experience ready, but it'll be the canvas I painted on. Gotta build up the treasury first. I love this forum for what I have learned and the tolerence most members have for JK Noobs.:yup:

This is the real reason we bought the JK. We're moving to Colorado next spring. It's home and we love wheelin' the Rockies.
Our new digs will be at 8000' and it does snow once in awhile.
