Hey guys I hope I have this in the right section but im ready to break ground and build me a garage at my new how and could use some size and layout tips.

To give yall some details, I been thinking of a 40x40 with 3 10x10 doors. Im wanting to be able to keep 3 rides in there and be able to work on them comfortably without having to pull one of them out to have elbow room. I also have the intentions of having a two post lift for convince. I will have my jku on 37s and possible 40s at some point plus my 72 dart that will be a frame up restoration so I would need room for the body and frame separate and still allow room for my 70 f100 that will be restored but not as extensively as the dart.

So we all that being said can yall post some tips and pics to give me an ideal of what I need. I would hate to drop all this money into it and have to many regrets. Thanks in advanced guys

First question is this going to be stick framed or metal framed with metal siding. The answer will be apparent shortly.

Stick framed- your dimensions work well with lumber as using multiples of 4. Second item to look at is the distance between each garage door. May I recommend two doors one being 18x10 and the second 10x10. This will afford you more room to work in the bay you designate as your 72 Dart bay. Second item to think about is the span of your building. At 40ft wide you will end to have a load bearing wall to support your roof trusses.

Metal Building- Dimension your building for multiples of 3'x30' as this is the typical length and width of the metal siding. Again with a 30ft deep shop you will have plenty of room to work and no seams. Bonus on metal framed building is they will engineer your trusses to span the width you choose. Another bonus for metal building is the height of the interior of the building. Unlike stick framed building the rafter package is not as intensive. Con to metal building is the interior finish and running electrical. Additional lumber will be required and all electrical will need to be run in conduit.

From start to finish metal will be dried in faster. Finish out is going to be the same. Depending on where you live it may be cheaper permit wise to build one over the other. Check with your local building department to see.

Stick framed building will require a general contra to and subcontractors for the various trades. Metal building are out up by one company.

I was looking to build a 30x60 with two bays for auto work and the third was going to be a wood/workshop.

Hope this helps.
