Check out car-parts.com. There is a 2008 D44 off a Rubi in South Carolina.

Also you can check eBay for a D44 housing.

I just went through the research and decided that I am going to save for what I really want not and not settle. The price difference with building a PR44 and a D44 is less than $500. The PR44 is a better choice.

If anything I would look at what you want and see what upgrades you want and start buying the parts to have around. I know the PR44 I can use a lot of my stock parts to save money and then as needed I can upgrade as I break a part.
