I’m here in Chicago and am having trouble finding someone to weld these sliders on. Just got a quote from a shop for $550 to install, no powder coating, just welding. Seems a little high?

^^ look for a mobile guy - that's who I had do mine. Some will charge a flat fee & others will charge by the hour. $550 is ridiculous even for Chicago labor rates!
 
I paid $100 and the guy showed me some tig welding too when I asked if he would teach me a bit. I had already done stick and mig but never tig. He taught me for about 45 minutes.

Was that an off-road shop or a welding shop? You need to find welder. Mobile guys sometimes charge $100 just to show up to your house. Find a welding shop, drive over there, and show them what you need done. They grind off paint in 6 spots, clamp slider in place, and burn it on.

You can paint the sliders before install, just leave the legs and feet bare until after the welding is done.
