Does anyone get tire protection coverage when they upgrade tires??

I didn't when I got my 35" km2s. And wouldn't you know a week later I got a big chunk of metal through my rear tire. When I bought my replacement tire I bought the insurance.

$7 per tire? Mine was like $40 I think.

LOL.....I work for the tire company where I get my tires. We get the tires severely discounted....and a flat $7 for the road hazard. I just had 5 tires (285-70-R17) mounted on a new set of Dick Cepek DC2 that I brought to our retail location, and the price out-the-door for the tires was SWEET!!

I rarely buy extended warranties and here is why in a nutshell...

Insurance companies and companies that sell insurance are for profit entities. Thus their goal is to make money off everything they sell...including extended warranties. The price is set by actuaries based upon the likelihood of having to pay out on a claim. And odds are against you ever using it.

All that said, I'd get the extended warranty on the tires. Especially if you wheel it. 👍

I, like MTG, never purchase a warranty for anything. I always assumed if you puncture or damage a tire, they would find a way to deny your claim and state that you were using it against its intended purpose. Has anyone had a tire they wheeled for a year, had chunking, sidewall scuffs, and then successfully filed a tire damage warranty claim caused by trail damage and had success? I assumed they would be like Chrysler and state you were abusing it and warranty is void.

I like to wheel without the worry so I got it.

Before you buy this "protection" read online reviews. I have never owned protection that didn't make me jump through 345 hoops. It is an incredible hassle (often times requiring the tire to be shipped on your dime) and is usually offered by 3rd parties. They also deny damn near everything ie bubbles in sidewalls to torn sidewalls, etc etc. I would carefully read the agreement to see if you are still interested. Based on my personal experience, I do not buy it anymore.

I don't think you can get it for chunking. Pretty sure it has to to damage that would affect the safety of the tire. And discount tire is really easy to deal with with warranties. Bring it in and they give you a new one.

Thats why I have never bought warranties. I worked at OfficeMax all through high school and on college summer breaks and I refused to sell their warranty plans. My boss constantly threatened me with demoting me to storage or register from sales floor(oh my :yawn37: ) because of the profits and push from corporate to meet "x" amount of warranty sales. I even made a good commission of the sales but its sad that some companies, and their employees can sleep at night ripping people off. I guess stealing is easier than earning and even companies are not above this :grayno:

No, I meant if they notice the chunking BUT you are there for a sidewall puncture or gash will they deny your claim because of obvious offroad use? Have you or anyone you know directly had this issue and a positive outcome?

I guess this is a discount tire question. They are great about responding on here so Ill PM them with this thread and customer questions.

Thanks for the PM Strizzy,

I buy the protection for my own tires and I work here. I pay the same price for the warranties as you do. They have saved me and my family enough times that I recommend them to all of my friends and family.

Our warranties are the best in the industry. They aren't pro-rated like most other retailers and they cover you for pretty much everything except for vandalism and abuse. Is there fine print? Yes, of course, there has to be to protect us from people that try to abuse our generous warranties. (you might be surprised with what some people are willing to do to try to get a warranty claim)

What about off road use, do they cover that? Yes, if you purchased an off road tire and you have an issue with one on the trail bring it in or call our customer care department. We'll likely ask for pictures if we can't see the tire in person. A lot of us at Discount Tire use our vehicles off road too and we understand that tires can get damaged on the trail. If you have repeat problems with a particular tire brand or tread pattern while off road, we'll likely recommend another tire that may be better for your use.

Side note: 94TJBeaver! Nice to see someone from Bend. I grew up there and still head up during the holidays to see my folks. I'm jealous that phoenix doesn't have the micro beer, arts and outdoor sports scenes that Bend does. Enjoy it! Summer is right around the corner.

Thanks for the fast reply! With a policy like that, I might just have to change my stance on warranties(for tires only :cheesy: ) :thumb:
