6MT Issues 5k Miles

-AINOKEA-

Hooked
So yesterday while driving on the highway, I was unable to shift to 5th. It felt like something was just blocking the gear... or as if it wasn't there. Thinking it was kinda weird, I tried to skip 5th and go from 4th to 6th. It grinded a little so I backed off and went back to 4th. Afterwards while still on the highway I was able to shift to 5th and 6th like normal. Only have 5k miles. I should also note that at 1700 miles, the clutch went out. Dealer replaced clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, and throw out bearing under warranty. It drove like a champ for about 100 miles and started shuddering again when starting out in first gear. Not sure if this issue is related. I've been driving manuals my whole life, and my 2011 JKU manual never had any issues like this at all.

What do you think it could be? Synchro?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If it's still under warranty I wouldn't personally worry about it and make them fix it. Just my 0.02

I was considering that too but if they cannot replicate not being able to shift into 5th and 6th, its kinda hard to prove anything is wrong with it. It is shifting normal as of now. Slight slippage when starting out in first but nothing drastic. Plus when I got the clutch replaced the first time, their so called "master mechanic" at the dealership told me that my clutch would be replaced same day (yeah right), but ended up keeping it for a week because he didn't realize how difficult it was. If I need to replace the clutch again, I'm leaning towards a centerforce and having a transmission shop in town do it instead. I'm just not sure if the clutch issues are related to the shifting issue yesterday or something different altogether.... or if there is even an issue at all and it was just a one-time thing. Hard to tell until I drive it more.

What year is your Jeep? There is a recall for manual transmissions that involves the shifter grommet(or something) not being properly installed that can cause sloppy shifting or popping out of gear. Basically the gear shifter isn't set into the trans right and doesn't engage the gears correctly. I had my 2016 fixed and it shifted into gears more firmly.

Your issue sounds like a synchro issue, but it is something to ask the dealer about.

Mine is a 2016. Could bad synchros cause premature clutch burnout too? Not too savvy on how those things work. I'll check what the dealership says about the recall. Supposedly all recalls were completed before I bought it but who knows.
