430N Sucks Worst Radio Ever

Purchased my jeep about a month ago and I can say is this is the worst radio I have ever used in a new vehicle. I can say call Ashley and it says call Natalie, how does Ashley sound remotely like Natalie? I've on multiple time said call number 1234567891 and it responds with call Jonathan. How in the hell does that even come close to what I said. Man this is truly a waste on over $1000, really wish I never would have purchased this radio. Should have got base model, shave several hundred dollars and get an aftermarket.

I have just the 430 with no Nav, and I have no complaints whatsoever. Much more than I've ever gotten out of any Jeep radio. But then again, I don't use the voice recognition. Just music stuff.

Sorry about your bad experience with it.

I mean the "radio" is just fine, but the phone connection, and the map and not being able to overlay custom maps is just bad. I could be totally fine with the phone and voice connection if the map system would work well with OFROAD application. I mean for crying out load that's what this thing is designed for.

i think the voice recognition is useless on the wrangler as well, not because it doesn't work but because when you driving all you can hear is wind and tires and people dont understand what your saying. i doubt there is anything better for a wrangler. just get a bluetooth if you want to be hands free.

I've never had a problem with mine. I do remember the salesman telling me there was some kind of speech recognition training you could do with it if you had problems. I don't remember how to access that but maybe someone else does or maybe call the dealership and ask.

I agree and figured it would be useless with the top off. But at a complete stop doors on top on it should work. And I could totally go without it if the map and navigation worked well.

Try the training, and read the manual on the proper commands. If you say "Ashley Jones mobile" it works fine (at least for me).

I've found the voice recognition sucks but the Bluetooth works great even with the roof off. I agree on the maps though you would think a jeep Nav would be setup for off-road use

My voice recognition works perfect 98% of the time, although the way it pronounces names can be a bit odd.

Also, with the the placement of the mic tucked up in the A Pillar, top off conversations are surprisingly free from too much wind noise.

Ive never had a problem with mine, much like Sharkey said its about 98% on voice recognition. Which is much better than any aftermarket I've had with only one exception, my Parrott Asteroid, and that's having had Pioneer, Kenwood and Jenson double din nav units.

NOT the worst radio ever. There's always worse. The 430 lets you add a backup cam which is nice. I like the touch screen. Nav sucks. I use Waze and iphone instead. You have to mess with the voice recognition. It's waaaay better than the Ford sync voice in my '12 Shelby GT500. $60k car and I couldn't say "call so-and-so" without it auto dialing the cousin I never want to talk to. At least the Jeep gives you a prompt to cancel if it's wrong....

The 430N has it's ups and downs. You and I may have just received those "lemon" units. I'm on my second 430N. If you still have a warranty, go to the Dealer and have them take care of it.

I too have issues with the voice commands, also with the Maps. All other features (Radio, HDD, AUX, CD, Bluetooth, Movie Watching, Backup Cam, Travel Link) work. Some times, the display shows "Power by Garmin" and it would just sit there. The voice commands, I may not get the menu prompts "please say a command..." it would just go *beep* you say "call Ashley" and it goes "bedoop" and dumps you out.

I took it to the Dealer, they ordered me a new one (took 2 months)... Still having issues with the maps freezing on "Powered by Garmin". Everything else seems to work fine... Except when I want to call Tikka (Stereo calls her Teakka). Haven't had time to do voice training on the new stereo yet.

It works ok for me. I hate the graphics and that stuff needs updated. As far as functionality it works fine.

730n

Guess I'm glad I have the 730N in mine

My wife had the 430 in a Dodge Avenger and the voice recognition was worthless it never worked. And we did set up through the voice training. I did here ain her dodge they had a recall of some sort on the microphone/speaker.

No issues with mine. When it has had issues, its been operator error.

Have phone calls all of the time with the top and doors off, people can tell but they say there still isn't a problem hearing or understanding me.

There could be a training program in the radio that will help it understand your voice better. I have the older 730n and once I did it, it recognized my commands much better.

Our 430 works pretty good. Its better than the 730 in our Chrysler Town & Country and way better than the sync in my F350. I think all of the nav units, especially ones from auto mfg's, have quirks.

Mine works just fine... MUCH better than Ford's Sync which is what I had previously. The Ford one was so frustrating to try to use I just didn't..

The GPS is pretty good for factory and I actually use it instead of using my phone. Speakers are really good to, at least on my Hard Rock edition..
