Day 6 - Turtle Ridge
Our 6th day on the 2012 JK-Experience would take us up and over the Mackinac Bridge and then across by ferry to Drummond Island which is the eastern most point on Michigan's Upper Penisula. While there's plenty to explore on the island itself, we would spend our first of two days on this beautiful island playing on the trails of Turtle Ridge Off-Road Park. Opened in 2005, Turtle Ridge has become one of the few places in the state of Michigan where you can still take on big rocks, deep mud holes and steep ledges and do so legally. The park offers trails for all skill levels and is well known for hosting Jeep Jamborees. Here are some pics from the fun we that day, I hope you enjoy.
Goodmorning from Houghton Lake...
Pushing further north...
Just before crossing the Mackinac Bridge, we made a stop over at the historical Colonial Michilinmackinac to check out the sites...
Shots of the 5 mile long Mackinac Bridge and historical buildings...
Lunch time compliments of Discount Tire...
Time to head on over to the Upper Peninsula...
Tanking up before hopping on the ferry...
There it is!! Our ferry to Drummond Island...
Time to pack them in - Nitto semi-truck, Discount Tire hauler and all...
And, here comes the second boat load of Jeeps...
Time to re-group and get ready to have some fun!!
Right on!! Turtle Ridge Off-Road Park here we come!!
Heading out into the sticky stuff...
But wait - there's more... ROCKY LEDGES!!
Okay, slippery and loose rocky ledges that need to be hit a bit harder as I soon found out...
Ummm, maybe not that hard...
Heading back into the muck, Mel starts his run through this bottomless bog...
Oh no, he's starting to slow down....
No go - he's in it good. Time to break out the winch...
Starting to sink and really putting his WARN winch to the test...
Light at the end of the tunnel...
Out at last...
Being that it was late and there was no way we were getting 20 rigs though that mess, we head on out...
Time for some pizza, beer and bowling!!
Good times!!
