15 used cars to avoid - Jeep Wrangler #15

Caught the Bug
I just saw this on MSN: "15 used cars to avoid" (http://editorial.autos.msn.com/15-used-cars-to-avoid?icid=autos_5223#16)

Jeep Wrangler - Model years to avoid: 2007 - 2012

The rough Jeep Wrangler is an off-road champion, but that doesn't mean it gets away free and clear when it comes to reliability. Squeaks and rattles plague Wranglers from 2007 to 2012, while suspension issues plague the SUV from 2007 to 2008 and major drive system failures are common from 2007 to 2010. Complaints about the SUV's fuel system and transmission problems from 2007 to 2010 round out the list.

Personally I never thought the stock suspension was great, but it is a lot better than my old '97 XJ. I haven't seen most of these issues. I really thought the burning engine oil was a "major" issue, but that wasn't mentioned in this short write-up.

Any thoughts?

It's written by a guy that.....
"Is usually fantasizing about a vintage Porsche 911."

So one has to wonder how objective he was in the article, seems he has a bias to cars based on the VW bug.

My .02 cents

I find it very interesting that despite all the bad reviews the Wranglers get, from all years old and new, they are still at the top of the list of vehicles that retain their values. It may be on the worst used cars list but its rare to find a 2009 JKU for under $20k. At least around me. Critics forget the demographic of people that buy the Wrangler and that most of the "issues" critics blast the vehicle for aren't really problems for buyers.

The Force will be with you.... always

To the author of the article, "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand." The JK has squeaks and rattles. To that I reply, "Does the Navy have ships?" Dude, it's an off road vehicle and it gets ridden pretty hard sometimes.:twocents:

Meh. People who are set on buying a Jeep are still going to buy a Jeep. Used or not.

I didn't buy any used vehicle in my past thinking "this thing has too many squeaks and rattles". I bought them all because of a combination of what I wanted and what I could afford. Any time I've ever had problems with a used car it was because of the previous owner, not manufacturing.

Worst an article like that will do is scare someone away from buying a Jeep who didn't really want one in the first place.

Rattles were mentioned for atleast 4 vehicles in that list. DUH!!!! When you get metal parts bolted to other metal parts, or better yet plastic to plastic with those high fuel economy vehicles, you get squeeks and rattles over time.

Thats like someone who has a 2 year old vehicle, gets a bumper dent and freaks out, it won't be new forever people....

I have an 08 jku and dont have any rattles or squeaks. My girlfriend volvo s60 has tons of squeaks from the center console

Jeeps are not for everyone. They don't have the luxuries of a Cadillac or Mercedes. They have the luxuries of a jeep.

Jeep seems to be taking a lot of hits in the media lately. I just read an article about how Jeeps are the least reliable vehicle brand in the US right now. Article was pretty vague with no verifiable facts.

A Jeep Wrangler was born out of War !

A Jeep was built to move troops in the worst conditions !!! Maybe Rubicon ? Maybe the swamps of La.?
I really like the luxary options auto, air, hard top,& 285 H.P. My Thoughts Duane

Haha I read a review not too long ago that placed the Wrangler at 3rd worst vehicle of the year. Its cons were handling, ride confort, and cabin noise... I kept thinking to myself, tell me something I didn't know! Lol

Don't follow me, I'm lost too! O|||||||O
