NEW Shoes for MOBY : 40x13.50R17 Cooper Discoverer STT Pro M/T Tires

    They're HERE!!

As some of you may know, Cindy and I have been running 37x13.50R17 Cooper Discoverer STT Pro M/T tires on our 2012 Jeep JK Wrangler, also known as Rubicat and a much smaller 225/75R16 version of it on Renny, our 2015 Jeep Renegade and we've been so impressed with how well they perform, we've literally been chomping at the bit to get them in a size 40 for Moby. Well, I'm happy to announce that Cooper Tire is finally making these awesome tires in a 40x13.50R17 and we just got a complete set of 5 of them in today. Needless to say, you know what we'll be working this weekend.

For those of you who aren't aware of it, the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro is a replacement of its predecessor which was just called the STT. According to Cooper, this new tire is their most advanced and extreme to date and in addition to it's new and more original tread design that features an aggressive "3-2 center rib design" and shoulder lugs they call "side-biters", the new STT Pro comes with an all new "silica tread compound" and improved sidewall strength through heir "3-Ply Armor-Tek3. I should note that unlike the 37x13.50R17's which come in an Load Range E, these new 40x13.50R17's come in a softer Load Range C and that means they will offer a softer ride. Of course, what we love most about Cooper Tires is that they're made right here in the U.S.A.

With all that said, here are some shots of what we just got. Drool away

WooHoo!! Our new 40" Cooper STT Pros being delivered.

Granted, our old Toyo's are mounted and inflated and of course, have a few miles on them but just for fun, we wanted to see what they looked like next to a brand new STT Pro.

Here's a side shot of what it will kind of look like installed.

And here's a closer shot so that you can see the sidewall in greater detail.

And finally, a close up shot of the STT Pro's super aggressive tread pattern.

ADDENDUM: Because I know a lot of you were wanting to know, Cindy and I took a few measurements and weighed a few things and I think you'd be interested to know that a brand new 40x13.50/R17 Cooper Discoverer STT Pro unmounted weighs 91.5 lbs., has an actual footprint that measures about 11-5/16" and a tread depth of about 11/16".

I'll be sure to post up more pics once they're installed and maybe try to get a video in too

NEW Shoes for MOBY : 40x13.50R17 Cooper Discoverer STT Pro M/T Tires

Here are shots of our new 40x13.50 Cooper Discoverer STT Pros mounted on ATX Chamber Pro II bead lock wheels and installed on Moby! Enjoy

For those of you who are interested, installed, aired up to 30 psi and with the full weight of our Jeep on the tires, the Cooper STT Pros measured 38-7/16" to the edge of the tread and that puts them at almost an inch taller than our old Toyo M/T's which came in at 37-1/2".

Also, for those of you who were wanting to know, the weight difference is between a 40x13.50/R17 Cooper STT Pro and Toyo Open Country M/T, is about 15 lbs. Both mounted on an ATX Chamber Pro II bead lock wheel, the Cooper weighed in at 134.8 lbs. and the Toyo weighed in at 150 lbs.

Without having these tires balanced, we took Moby for a test drive and and found them to ride surprisingly clean and without any issues up to about 70 MPH. At 70, the front end stayed clean but we could feel some shimming in the rear end indicating one or maybe both tires were a tad out of balance. The shimming faded substantially at about 80 MPH. Needless to say, we'll be getting them balanced soon.

Because of the large lugs and voids that mud terrains have, they ALL sing louder on pavement than an all terrain or street tire and of all the ones we've tested to date, we have found Cooper STT Pros to be slightly louder than something like a new Toyo M/T. That being said, our old Toyos had about 17,000 miles on them and were actually louder on pavement than our new Coopers. Of course, compared to our old Nitto Mud Grapplers, these Coopers are essentially silent.

Those are way badass. Can't wait to see them mounted up. I bet them being a load class C they should ride pretty nice on the road too. Aren't the Toyo's Class E?

Edit: LOL NVM about the Class C comments. I went back & read your comments instead of going right to the pictures this time all Google-eyed.....
