    Ham Radios?

I just double checked your license levels. Tech gets you VHF and UHF. General adds in HF. From a wheeling point of view, no one uses HF and I can only think of one of my 40+ club members who actually has a HF radio...

    Ham Radios?

www.hamradio.com is a very popular sales site. I do believe they also have a lot of info on getting licensed. It is good for browsing and they list the promos of the MFGs. I run an ICOM IC2200H (Bought in 2008). I think the current version is 2300. It is a mil spec radio with a non-mil spec...

    Ham Radios?

Go take the test. 35 questions. It is easy ( I have US club members and they have remarked at how easy it was). Up here out test is 100 questions and, depending on the instructor, can be an arduous or basic endeavour. Usually takes a day and a half of your time from our local examiners. I am...

    Ham Radios?

Your truckers still use CB? Ours ditched those a generation ago. Commercial VHF is what they all use here. $50 annual fee and they are good to go.

    Ham Radios?

That is a silly rule, for license to expire. They are good for life here :) I do not find the HAM all that much more difficult to use than a CB. Set the freq and use the mic! Some HAM radios are more user friendly than others when you get beyond the simple frequency selection!

    Ham Radios?

CBs and HAM radios operate on different frequency bands. So they can not talk to each other.... but I do know of some who "modified" their HAM radios to work on CB freq. I do not understand how a HAM license expires. It is for life. The only way for it to expire is with your death. Are you a...

    Clayton long arm kit

I am running their long arm kit in my LJ Installed Summer 08 and I have put over 60k miles on it since. The service from Clayton was great. It is stout and takes a beating with hardly an issue. The only "weak point" I found was the tranny mount/subframe that the main skid plate goes on. The...

A little fun iwht CL this AM

So this morning I search for Stihl to see what comes up. I see this ad http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/tls/4349022520.html $100, wonder what it looks like. Detail is sketchy and well any decent Stihl is at least $150, especially after the snow storm that rolled through the last two days...

    RUSTY : 1972 Jeep J2000 Pick-Up Truck

Nice As someone who drove a 71 F250 around (dad's) I for see a disk brake upgrade, at least in the front, happening. Front drums suck! :D

    Winch line rating?

Used or new? Keep it clean, inspect for damage and wear regularly.

    Winch line rating?

On what winch is this rope to be used? Most stall out way before that. Most 8k winches have 5/16 on it, being synth or steel. Under normal operation, 3/8 is more than enough for a Jeep.

    Worm drive VS Planetary

They really have not changed much since 1974. Mine was made late 70s that I have had for a decade. Used they can be had for a few hundred and usually a nice used one is 500. Craigslist can be your friend. I am a believer in this winch. In my opinion, nothing really comes close. The newer -50...

    Best Trail Runs of 2013

My apologies for those in countries where these videos are prohibited. 5- Getting stuck in my own back yard. This was a first for me. 4- Ross Lake Snow Run. About 8 of us on this day. Beautiful day out. Made it closer to the lake than ever before. Ran out of daylight and there were many trees...

    Snow Chains

Snow is such a false term used. Has nothing to do with chains really. Chains, tires etc are all designed with the name snow, but they are really all designed for use on ice. What you want are ice chains. For traction on the ice. V-bar is a popular style. V-bar are custom made to fit your...

    Whipsaw trail video

The 4WD Association of BC held what they are planning as an annual gathering at a campground on one end of the Whipsaw Trail. A couple vids of mine from the weekend. One being a time lapse of a portion of the group arriving. The longer exposures pointed at the campfire were fun. The second is...

Ode to an Xterra owner video

I guess a bit of preamble before the video. A week ago was his 40th birthday. His loving wife decided to have a surprise birthday party and a bit of a roast. He was surprised. His family did a good job on the roast part. My contribution was this video. I think his family enjoyed it more than he...

    What's your RTI Score?

I have this one in my yard :) It is a great tool for tuning your suspension. I used it to shift stuff to allow more travel and less rubbing. Adjust bumpstops etc. then I lowered the Jeep and reduced its articulation. I think fully unrestricted, it is somewhere around 1400. distance up...
