As far as talking to other countries without skip...not happening (unless your on the Canadian or Mexico border :p) you can expect to get back to anyone you can hear on your 102 whip unless they running juice..regular terrain with no big hills blocking.. 5-7 miles mobile to mobile... 10+ miles...

If it going to battery make sure you fuse it close to battery..if it's got a cigarette lighter plug it should have a 3amp or so fuse inline already..and with a 102 antenna setup ok, expect 7-10miles on flattish land on AM.. any hills and it goes down quick from there.. SSB expect to add some...
