Unfortunately, the only place I've found to work the best with my 42" spare is in the bed. I use a tire strap to hold it down and added a third point on the floor of the bed to secure it in place. Maybe it's just me but I find that the factory mirrors work well. Certainly, I've never felt a need to change them out other then them getting smashed by a rock.
