    SOA CJ5 needs softer ride

Kinda thinking that stock YJ springs may be the ticket.

    SOA CJ5 needs softer ride

I need a softer ride for my '79 CJ5 that came with an owner fabricated SOA lift and Dodge truck D44 and Chrysler 9.25 axles. I have pretty bad back issues due to an IED attack on my last deployment. As far as I can tell it is using the stock CJ springs. I've been researching a coilover 3...

My slower than crap CJ5 build.

Haven't had much energy or money to put into the project, but I have done a few small things. New front recovery points are off my old F250. Put in a CB. Not many places to fit a full size radio in a CJ5. I welded a couple bars between the top runners on the roll cage. I used an old...

Got the twin stick shifter mounted, but can't get the transfer case to move out of neutral in the front drive. Shifter is good, T-case is messed up somehow. Worked 2 weeks ago... ??? Took the front seat out, and built Brandy a temporary front seat dog bed. I'll have to re do it later when I...

Thank you. That's incredibly generous. I can't believe I'm turning down free tools, but I'm going to go ahead and get a new one. I like how the newer ones allow you to mount the blade facing up, down, left, or right. Seen a guy in my 4x4 club using one on the trail with a long wood blade a while...

All didn't go well. Got the shifter off of the transfercase but couldn't get the adapter for the new twin stick cable shifter mounted. There is a piece in the way I need to cut off, but my sawzall died. Will have to pick up a new one soon. Probably get a battery powered one.

Brown Santa dropped off my new J B twin stick cable shifter today. If all goes well, that will go on within the next week.

Here's a shot of my constant shadow Brandy and I last week on our first trip off roading in over a year. She is my 98 pound German Shepherd. (more like German Shedder) She is a service dog and is with me 24/7. The passenger seat will be replaced by a custom made platform for Brandy as she's too...

My slower than crap CJ5 build.

Plans have changed. A lot. I will have to keep the house up to keep the wife happy. I'll not be putting much money into my car anytime soon. (2003 Mercury Marauder) I'll not be starting any gun builds for a while. I'll just drive the Jeep as she is for the summer then start teardown in the...

My slower than crap CJ5 build.

Some parts each month. I'm giving myself 2 years start to finish. I will use it this summer and start the real teardown in the fall. After driving around in her a bit I find she is lacking in the wiring department. The PO stripped out everything he didn't need to run in the sand. I've no way to...

My slower than crap CJ5 build.

Picked up the factory Dana 20 skidplate I needed. Hope to get under it soon and see if I can make it work with the Dodge 360 and 727. It may be a bit further back, but hoping I can make it work. Took her out for the first time Sunday. Needed a place for my stuff, so I put in my first mod, a...

Help. Need ideas on transfer case mounting.

I have no idea what springs were used. The rear springs are 2.5" wide and the front only 2" wide. Somebody told me that's the way CJs were from the factory, but I don't remember on what forum that was. I've had a Suburban, and an F250 that were SOA and they did fine with much more weight. (and...

Found a possible CJ5 carcass to pick through from a facebook group (midwest overlanders) contact, so some parts may be coming within the next month or so.

So I got the improperly mounted traction bars off. You can tell that the lack of a front shackle put them under stress by the fact that they are no longer straight... They were built more like upper links on a 4 link and put the leafs in a bind. Went to test the flex, and now I think my...

My slower than crap CJ5 build.

Looking for ideas for my first major project. I need to get the t-case in my CJ5 back up where it belongs. The builder lowered the ass end of the engine, and now the t-case too low. It may have worked for him on the sand dunes, but it won't work for me on trails through the woods. Looking for...

    The perfect tire.

Designing the perfect tire has eluded tire makers for decades, because no one tire can truly do everything well. I want an all terrain tire because like most people, most of the miles I drive are on paved roads. I need good snow traction as well. However, I also want a mud terrain, because...

Cindy's Birthday Snow Wheeling Expedition Run

Wow. I wish Cindy could get my wife to like wheeling, but Indiana isn't right next door to you guys. Few of my local wheeling buddies have even met my wife. She's like "Go have fun." I was able to get her to go out with me exactly once, around 18 or 20 years ago. Some people just don't like not...

    My hammy down cj5 build

Great. It deserves attention. Best thing I like about my CJ5, it is a Jeep... that still looks like a Jeep.
